Default JD 425 All Wheel Steer

Who owns one? Do you like the all wheel steer function. Would you consider the 425 to more mower vs garden tractor?

Thanks on any info related to the JD425

It is a pretty good sized garden tractor that has plenty of power and a good engine in it. I have the AWS function on two of my tractor and love it expecially since I have 1500 trees to mow around. It really comes in handy with snow removal because you can turn on a dime for the next pass. Its a great tractor

Thanks for the input, do you find extra steering parts a weak link in the tractor.

Nope, nothing has ever failed on me and I feel these tractors are well engineered to stand up to the hard rigors of work.

All the AWS parts are automotive parts, so they basically never wear out on a L&G tractor. Very tough.

Only negative I can think of is that on these older AWS machines you can't run the 26" tires like the non-AWS 400-series tractors due to clearances.

great access panels to service engine - smooth, strong running and does a great job mowing with the almost zero turn ability.

AWS was a big plus for me but I wonder if my neighbors realize how cool it is. My 425 mows, snowblows, plows, aerates, pulls trailers. I had the steering rod that connects the front and back fall off. I wish somebody had a video of me nursing it back to the garage. I had front wheel steering but the rear wheels sort of followed the terrain. Pretty comical. The steering rod was worn out and had to be replaced. As you might expect from JD it was expensive. If you turn tight around trees you end up with a scruff ring around the tree, at least that's what I have. I find the steering odd when I have the snowblower on. I think I might like 2ws better for snowblowing. Still it does the job. I'm over 1000 hours and still have the plastic timing gear hanging over my head. It does suck down a lot of fuel. Over all it's a great tractor.

Those things mow like crazy. My father-in-law had one and to back something up, lets just say be careful. LOL Only problem he had with his was the gear box for the deck went out. Pretty expensive.
