Not sure what year the ol girl is but she won't increase speed when I adjust the speed control lever. Climbed under her and looked at the lever control and I'm just not sure how the thing increases speed when theres nothing connected to it , a little stumped here ................

![]() Hi Craig, Just to make it clearer - you just got this machine? It sounds as if the previous owner did not have the throttle cable connected to the throttle lever, if I read you correctly. Is there a cable dangling somewhere? Or perhaps it was re-powered and the "new" engine has the throttle control right on it, rather inconveniently. If you've had this machine, is this a recent development? Any more info you can provide will help us help you. And, we love pictures here…

nope no hanging cables or nothing like that just don't understand the concept how does it acually increase the speed as the lever doesn't seem to move to a different pulley or gear or anyn thing as it is a 3 speed w/ rev any way |

Are you talking about the engine speed or the transmission speed?

Ahhh… I ASSumed it was the engine speed you were talking about. Sorry 'bout that! I haven't a clue about the vari-speed drive. There are threads on here about that, you might try a search to find them. There is a lot of knowledge here, for the finding.

Craig, My 6216 did the same thing. I had to take it apart and clean it, then adjust it as per the manual.
Here is a link to my repairs: http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/...OPIC_ID=111967 If you can get the MFR # off of the side of the tractor chasis (near the running boards) you can plug the # into the www.simplicitymfg.com site and get an operators and parts manual for the tractor.

hey mower guy I appreciate and i have the original owners manual but for lack of some brain dead thought process of my own I just dont get the concept,......is it centrifical force that creates the higher range of speed or what. The variable speed control when I move it up and down it is free to move about

I believe that the lever moves one half of a pulley in or out, and the other pulley is spring loaded to compensate. The changing effective diameter of the pulleys is what changes the "gear" ratios.

hey cubman put it up on ramps hosed the variable pulley down with w-d 40 and I noticed i doubled my speed in all gears but there is just one level of increased speed I guess like any high and low ranges that are equally affected by increased throttle. But never the less it has improved and perhaps will continue to do so, thanks a mill for your help.............ct.
