Default John deere x304 idle problem

My x304 idle's high then low and won't even out at low throttle.

I have installed the tune up kit oil, new air,oil and fuel filters and new spark plugs. It only has 60hrs on it.

If I push the lever to full throttle I can still hear a slightly unsteady idle.

Please Help Thanks!

Did it do that before you did the tune up on it?

Ok then
1. Make sure you install the fuel filter the right way.
2. You may have a defect spark plug.
3. Recheck all the work you done on it.

For the spark plug the easy way to determinate the defect one is to reinstall one used plug at the time.

Stladrill I will look at it tommarow at the spark plugs. When I changed the oil I was not sure if I should check the level with the oil cap locked on or just placed to the top of the dipstick tube.

The top of the dipstick tube (unscrew) after running the engine for few minutes.

I'm sure you will find the problem.

No it is not what cause your problem, but I recommend to drain it a bit of oil.

I checked the fuel filter and the arrow on it is pointing toward the carb (the fuel flow direction)

I replaced both spark plugs with the old ones.

And rechecked the oil level, it was on the money and the air cleaner and pre filter are clean.

I also checked the fuel pump vent and it doesn't seam dirty.

The tractor still idle's up and down

Could a small piece of dirt got into the carb when I changed the filter?
If so how do I get it out?
Should I pour some fuel system cleaner in the gas?

Did you check the gas cap vent? try to unscrew it, if your hear a vacuum noise is a sign that the vent is blocked.

I added fuel to the tractor while it was running and opening the cap did not change anything.

Let us know which engine this uses and someone will come up with the procedure to clean the idle jet on the carburetor.
