Help Points not Opening on a Kohler K321

My cub 149 with a kohler K321 wasnt running right and didnt have any power so I checked the points. I took the cover off and turned the ignitoin to get them open and they didnt open. I opened them with my hand and they look fine. Tryed it again and still they wouldnt move. The rod that pushes them didnt move. So i held them open and turned the key and the rod moved. It will only move with me holding the points open. What is wrong and how hard of a fix is it?

Take the points assembly off and check if the rod is in one piece......Then, if it is, turn the engine by hand and hold the rod in and see if it goes in and out when you turn engine.

AFAIK....The original Push Rods were made of Aluminum with a steel tip. The replacement Push Rods are all steel. It might need replacing.

Remove the points and you should see a small portion of the Push Rod sticking through the block. Grab some needle nose pliers and pull it out. Reverse your steps, set the point gap or time it with a light. We should be good to go.

Thanks I got it out and got a new one and a few gaskets I needed. It took me over a hlaf our at the local mower shop. They are idiots when it comes to anything more than 10 years old. The old guy that works in the back came out finaly and he found it in 5 minutes. I need to find another local mower shop. I do need to make 2 gaskets myself because they couldnt even find the part #s for them. Tommorw after school i will put it all back together.
