Default JD 445 (Glow Plug Light) Question

Does anyone know why the glow plug light is on when the fuel pump is priming when I first turn the key on my '94 445? Also, I've seen it flash very specifically twice slow then twice fast continuously when the machine is running. It makes me think it's trying to give me a diagnostic code. My buddy 455 experience and the complete shop manual and we're still unsure to why my tractor does these things. We're both kinda surprised that Deere even powered or used the glow plug indicator light on a 445.

If you have a manual it will tell you what the flashing means.
I traded my 445 this year or I would look it up for you, but one of the reasons for the flashing was trying to start the engine to soon after turning the key on?

On a 445? I guess I can believe it. I always wait for the fuel pump to stop priming before I start it.

Yeah well that might be a good explanation.

It isn't a glow plug light, it is the fuel injection diagnostic light. You are supposed to wait until it extinguishes before starting (allowing the fuel pump to fully energize/pressurize).

The light blinks a code to warn the operator which sensor may require service. When the light is blinking a code, the fuel injection module computer operates in a default mode for fuel injection to allow the engine to run until the unit can be serviced. The diagnostic light code is as follows:

• Long, short, short—air temperature sensor.
• Long, short, short, short—coolant temperature sensor.
• Long, long, short—air pressure sensor.
• Long, long, short, short—key switch turned to start position before light was off, or air pressure sensor.
• Short, long continuously—more than one sensor may require service.

More likely than not, you aren't waiting long enough before starting. If you are, then the air pressure sensor is suspect.

Regards,

Rich

I had this today. Searched the forum and found the issue.
long long short short.
Neighbor pulled up, started chatting, turned the key off, BS'd for a few, he drove off, and I rolled the key / didn't wait for the fuel pump to finish building fuel pressure before starting. Noticed it, turned it off, restarted after pump stopped, no lights.

Always learning something new on this forum. Was going to jump in with, 455 diesel is the only tractor with glow plug, all others are gasoline fuel. appears the dash lights are for monitoring sensor problems.

Same here, I always thought the wait time was for the glow plugs, not the fuel injection.

Yep, if you're quiet, you can hear the fuel pump run, until the light goes out.
Once it's out / fuel pump has stopped, the FI system has the pressure needed.
