Default Hit a small stump, now engine wont start

I went over a small bush stump (4" wide). The blade hit into it and the engine cut out. But now I can't even start the engine. Everything looks ok as far as I can see. Is there a safety mechanism that I can reset or something? I turn the key and get nothing at all.

You don't say what model. Does it have a clutch interlock that prevents it from being started while engaged?

It is a GT-235. It has a button to press to engage the blades. I could see maybe the blades not engaging but why wont the engine even start?

It may have damaged the flywheel key which throws off the timing.

Do you mean it won't turn over? It will make it so it fires at the wrong time. It may run badly or not run at all.

I turn the key and nothing happens. The oil light comes on. But not a sound when I turn the key.

Sounds like you have a wire that got knocked off or at least real loose someplace.

Tried that, no luck.

I was going slow too. Is there's a safty mechanism, like a pin or something, that breaks when the blade hits a solid object? Must not be too uncommon to hit something like that. Not sure why it would affect the engine.

Certainly the idea would be to role the tractor away from the object. But even if the blade mechanism was broke, I would think it would allow me to drive it.

It seems like there should be a reset button, like a breaker switch of some kind, that tripps to protect the cams or something, and allows you to inexpensively get it back running.

Again, I will ask, does it have a clutch interlock that prevents it from being started while engaged? Do you need to have it in neutral with the clutch disengaged?

There is a peddle that has to be pressed in order to start it. It's next to the forward and reverse pedels.

I had a neighbor that hit a large stump several years ago......he had to by a new short block. I'm not saying you have that much damage but it is possible.
