Post painting LB handles.

ive got a few lawnboy handles that are pretty rusted beond steel whool repair and was wondering-should i paint them the color of the mower? ive seen it on a few lawnboys and i think chrome is sharp but i like the green handles too.id also like to paind them white to go with the wheels and the top of the handle.if i ever get around to rebuilding my white shroud lawnboy should i paint the deck white with the shrould or give it a tux look for somthing different? dont be shy to say if i should or not.

I don't know how the paint would stick to the handles that used to be chrome. Wonder if powder coating would be the way to go on those.

Im just waiting for clean handles to show up here or Ebay. It would be worth 40 bucks shipped to get clean chrome handles to me because it would cost at least that to powder coat and more to rechrome.

i see what you mean,if anything i want chrome plated it would be the LB/toro wheels (like on my V and 10550)and parts of the shroud on bricktop models and the flywheel screen on all exposed flywheels.

Use a 400 grit sand paper then use Duplicolor adhesion promoter. I use flat black Krylon outdoor paint or spray on truck bedliner and it gives a purposeful look to the handles.

I'll be honest, I can't imagine chrome-plating a bricktop shroud ever being a good idea. Those things are getting rare enough as is. Now the flywheel screen I can see looking very sharp on models that had the chrome look.

I've been thinking about painting some of my handles too (rusty ones). A "hammered" finish paint is what I have been considering. I used this to restore a Coleman stove and it turned out really nice. The silver or gray would be great looking http://www.rustoleum.com/Product.asp...ct_id=21&SBL=1.

According to the website:
-A distinctive hammered metal finish
-Can be applied directly over rust
-Hides flaws and imperfections in scratched, rusted and pitted metal
-Indoor/Outdoor durability
-Perfect for wheel barrows, lighting fixtures, wheel rims and other metals

I tried this...the handle looked like it was all dented and mangled. I used black -may be the other colors would fair better but black was a no go.
