The dealer still has my new to me 455. He said he could install the mulching kit for an extra 300 bucks.
I never plan to get a bagger and don' really want to have rows of grass left on my lawn.
Should I get this? Or should I just get gator blades later. Do I need the mulching kit for the gator blades to be effective?

It depends

If you are able to cut the grass at just the right time all the time, you don't need to munch it. But if it rains for a few days and you know it will get the kit

with your new tractor, John

Myself I like the mulch kit and I use gator blades on a 54C deck. In the fall I mulch up the leafs until they just disappear. The gators will contact the plastic insert on the mulch kit but won't cut through it. slkpk
