I am not sure about this as a preventive measure, but I have seen in some service notes that they recommend it after a few hours if the head gasket has been replaced.
Remember that if you simply put the torque wrench on and turn it till it clicks, you will likely not accomplish anything.

The trick I have seen written but not tried myself is as follows:
  • Back all 4 headbolts out a little to loosen them
  • Take one headbolt completely out and dip the threads in a little oil
  • Re-insert bolt and snug it down (don't tighten it yet)
  • Repeat for the remaining 3 bolts
  • Torque down all 4 bolts per the repair manual instructions
As I said I have not tried this but it does seem to make sense. Basically you are taking the bolts out all the way and then re-inserting them again however without disturbing any of the gaskets.

Use at your own risk

I don't see where that is any different then using a used head gasket over. Year ago when we retorgued heads after it heated up, we sure didn't loosen them first, this was on automobile engines.

You aren't supposed to reuse the head bolts so to me removing them and re-torquing them wouldn't be right.

The information says you check the them after a few hours after you replace the gasket, but I dint want want to take everything back off the motor.
