Default Trailer to pull behind your ATV

Looking for a decent trailer to pull behind my ATV. Need a trailer around the property (rolling 70 acres) for brush, timber, fencing, etc. My ATV (new to me) is Outlander 800 that says it will tow 1300 lbs.

I've been looking at a little Big-Tex 15LT, 50" x 96" utility trailer, that weighs 460 lbs unladen. Gross capacity is 1500 lbs. It would also qualify as a transport trailer FOR the ATV, too.

I would like something bigger than the "Garden Cart" variety of atv trailer, stock, without going custom and getting too spendy.

What do you think? Other ideas?

I use my Prairie 360 more as a tractor than a recreational rig anymore. I've got half a dozen trailers for various purposes but the handiest is a little single axle with a 4' X 6' bed. It came with expanded metal for the deck but I put a piece of 3/4" plywood over it to keep nails and stuff from leaking out. The trailer has sides about a foot high and is made very simply. Wheels are 12" and I wish now I had gotten one with the 14" wheels as they would have been better for when I tow the trailer on the road with the pickup.

The tilt bed feature is seldom used and I took the big loading gate off the back as for my use it was more of a nuisance than a help. If I need to load something with a hand truck I use ramps. The quad will self load with out ramps the deck is so low. Probably if I had the 14" wheels I'd have to put down some 4 X 4 inch blocks to start the quad up on to load it.

I've found the shorter, low deck trailer is really handy for fence building and hauling stuff around. The longer trailers tend to become a bit of a problem in more restricted areas and rougher ground. When I'm working new fence I usually have a little Honda generator, air compressor, air nailers and all the wire, buckets and such that goes along with the job. Wood and steel post as well as post hole diggers and such all fit on the little trailer. Hand tools are carried in the front and rear open top cargo boxes on the quad.

Biggest problem I have with this little trailer is keeping the wife from stealing it for garden use behind her little quad.

Tencubed - you're setup sounds similar to what I was considering. I canned that idea, at least for now, because the tongue weight capacity is 50 lbs. The Big-Tex trailer I looked at felt like the tongue weight was maybe 40-50 lbs, without loading the trailer.

Paul - that 2-axle setup looks perfect. Haven't seen that in California at my normal sources. I'll look harder. 2 axles means very little tongue weight. My unit specs capacities as 50 lbs tongue weight and 1300 lbs tow weight.

I built this one to haul firewood from behind my house. it's 4' wide X 6' long. It works well and was relatively inexpensive. I used to linear actuators to make it dump.

I got lucky and found this one on Craigslist for $40.

It is a 5 x 5 and both ends have a tailgate to haul long items and it also tilts. I use it for hauling wood, rocks, dirt, sand, brush etc. I also have a 5 x 8 tilt trailer for the larger jobs but I use this one about 90% of the time around the property.

Check with Harbor freight and you can get a 4 x 8 trailer with everything but a floor/sides for about $300 and customize the rest yourself.
