Default 5 Feet of Snow in MD

Well the mods kind of beat me down on starting a Weather Section so I guess I'll keep posting here. We got a lot of snow! After plowing 3 times yesterday I woke up Thursday to this. The drifting was incredible (for Maryland). My JD 345 was a bit overwhelmed but I managed to get the driveway clear. The AG's with chains push real well, even better than turfs with chains but reverse is not as good. I've put over 25 hours on her since January 19, 2010. She's been working hard.

That's amazing, great pictures. Glad the tractor is doing the job, lot's bigger ones would still be struggling in all that snow.

You did a lot of work, getting that snow piled that high. Actually looks like you used a FEL on the left side of the driveway.

My driveway looked about the same. In fact I just came in from cleaning up again; we got about 10 inches more yesterday and last night. That was 10" accumulation, but it drifted about like your driveway.

I thought the 22" we got over the weekend was going to be it for a while; I guess Mother Nature had other ideas.

Better job than I did with my X300 with a plywood plow. I can only push so much, so I have piles of snow 2 feet high 8 to 10 piles deep. I'm having serious issues where to put any additional snow. My new tire chains really help out, I didn't get stuck once, but i can't get down to blacktop, it's an icy landspace right now.

It took a bit of shoveling to get the piles that high and the wind did the rest. The State just came thru with 3 HUGE articulated Volvo bucket loaders to clear the drifts on the side of the highway out front. I wish I had my camera with me.....one guy pulled it into my driveway to turn around and there I was at the end of my driveway sitting on my little GT. I sneared at him and challenged him to a duel, but he just laughed and waived me off. What a chicken! Would have made a great pic.

My plow lifts quite high with a winch, so i sort of lift and push snow into pile, rinse and repeat.

where do you guys plow it all to? do you plow the driveway extra wide the first couple times so you have room during the middle/end of winter?

i bought a blower so i wouldn't have to worry about it.

Khodges and Tranks,

Power was not the problem, it's the weight. I would love to give KHodges's 748 a go at it, but I am thinking of discussing a blower with the wife. Once you get to 3 feet it's hard to find a place to push it. Luckily when I cleared snow from the first storm that came up the coast on Saturday, I knew that there was this second storm not far behind. I pushed the first 30 inch snowfall from that first storm way off into the grass to make room for more snow. Still had to shovel my azz off though and the rest had to be pushed out into and across the State Highway in front of my house. The big State plows took care of the rest.

The roads for the most part are in good shape now, as of a hour ago.

Although we haven't had that much this year we've learned in the snow belt to push the snow back as far as possible and to push so the drifts don't build up to block our drives! I've had to use my blowers later in the season to cut back into the piles once it builds up too far (blower was broken for a while and had to use blade).
