Default Mower Deck lift knob question

Is it normal for the adjusting knob for the mower deck to spin around when the deck is in the raised position? I would not think this is normal.

If set my deck height and then raise it for whatever reason it will vibrate around to another height.

I am guessing this is going to happen with the snowblower as well. since it vibrates up (higher) the snowlblower will be a big issue as its going to get raised and lowered often.

Seems there should be some type of friction device in there to keep it from turning.

I am not sure on a 345 but on my 300 there is a "jam" nut under the knob to lock it down so it doesnt move. Could you take a pic and post exactly what yours looks like perhaps?

I pulled the knob off and all I could see was a snap ring.

Looking at the parts break down the shaft comes up through a bushing and the snap ring goes on. Then the knob just slides onto the shaft.

I dont see any way to kep it from vibrating around.

rrmccabe , #6 is a spring clip that locks the knob at each setting , I believe it's either unhooked or missing ...

Ahh, that makes sense. The bend in the spring clip must ride against #3.

I wil have to get under there and look and see if its there

Thanks

My knob on my GX345 is pretty loose when you have the deck raised. Spins real easy, I thought the same thing but someone else on here said its normal.

I think yours is broke too Farmer.

Apparantly its a common issue. My cousin has a 325 and 720. He says his 325 spun freely when he got it used from JD dealer. He asked them about it and the dealer put a new spring clip in it and its been fine since.

On my 300 it does not spin, but it does get loose when the deck is raised and it kinda vibrates around while the engine is running. Lower the deck back down, good to go.

I can confirm that you need to install a new #6.

I ordered one last week. Not here yet

Be installing that and the Halogen upgrade kit at the same time.

Fixed.

For those with same issue you need to remove the rear fenders/seat and running board section to get at it. Not a big deal.

Sorry for the crappy cellphone picture but the spring clip goes from the slot at top of picture to the bolt on lower left. The bump/bend on the spring rides against indentations and keeps the knob from spinning.

Replacement part is under $2.00.
