Default Help! JD 2305 keeps stalling

I was using it to mow my acreage and had been out there a couple of hours and everything was going fine. All of a sudden the engine dies (yes it has gas). I get it restarted but it dies again when I put it to low idle. This happens a couple more times. Each time I get it restarted I have to set the throttle a little bit higher to keep it running. Finally, it wouldn't start at all.

So what do you think is going on here?

Thanks.

Not a tractor expert, but first thing I would check is the fuel filter. See if it is clogged up. I'm sure some of the 2305 experts will chime in here soon as well.

Thanks for the input. I checked the fuel filter and it is a little cruded up so I'll plan on getting a new one on Monday. Doesn't look like it would create a total blockage though, so I'm not sure if this is my problem. I emptied the sediment bowl, put everything back, and tried to start it again. Did the same thing, ran for about 30 seconds then died.

Rain,

It's hard to diagnose these things long distance, but there have been several cases where debris got inside the diesel tank and plugged the line. If this is the case, then draining and cleaning the tank and lines are necessary. The other thing I would try to rule out is a safety switch cut out. There could be a short in one.

Do you notice it doing this when you hit a bump or you don't even get to move. If you need to clean the tank and if you have a air compressor get a suction line for the compressor and pull the fuel out that way. they you don't need to pull the tank. I have many times cleaned a fuel tank that way.

Thanks again for the follow up replies.

Castiman - the outer filter was pretty dusty so I'll add that to my list of parts to get on Monday.

JD Fanatic - Debris in the tank is a possibility. The issue certainly seems fuel related so I might have to do that if the easy fixes don't work.

Team Green - no, it's not motion related. It will die in 30 seconds if I just leave there to idle. If I move the throttle down to low idle it will die instantly.

Have you check the spark plugs recently? Ok, Ok, just kidding

There are several great suggestions put forth by others here in this forum. After you change the air filter, fuel filter and blow out the fuel lines let us know how things are. I'm very curious. There are other things to check but I'm banking on this problem being a fuel related problem.

Good luck and let us know.

You state "(yes it has gas)".

Sure you don't mean this literally . . . if so, that would certainly explain why it won't keep running . . .

Check to make sure that your 3 point hitch lever is down and your drop valve for the 3 point hitch is open. If the hitch lever is pulled up and you had the valve locked so your 3 point would not drop, this will cause it to bogg down and not run as you have described. Just a thought, for it has happened to mine on numerous occasions.

Call the dealer and have them fix it if it is under warranty

D'oh. That would be funny. No, it has the correct fuel. Even bought a yellow diesel-only can so I didn't get them mixed up.

Unfortunately not under warranty. I've only had it a few days and don't really know the history so I'm hopeful some of the basic maintenance items mentioned here will fix it.
