Utility/ motorcycle trailer build

Didn't get much done tonight except weld on the extention to square up the trailer and welded on some supports to stiffen everything up.

Ok so after a week or better of battling the flu I finally got back out to the shop to work on my trailer. I haven't done a whole lot just finished up some welds and shot some paint on the trailer itself and the fenders. On the trailer frame I used Valspar implement gloss black which I think worked pretty good although I learned you have to really thin that stuff out......I swear it was like like trying to shoot cottage cheese lol. on the fenders I used Valspar rattle can chrome which is a real nice rattle chrome In my humble opnion. So that's it for now.[IMG][/IMG]

Now would be the time to take care of that.

I totaly agree, I do not like the single U bolt set up at all, I know it may work, but the 2 U bolt per spring makes you feel a little more safe

Also make use you use a high grade U bolt, you best bet is to go to a trailer shop or the trailer section of a Boat/RV/TSC type store

That looks great for spray bomb ......... I may use it to dress up the wheels on the freebie go-kart

I don't see the problem with a single u-bolt set up for a light duty trailer....and I mean light duty. It should work just fine for hauling ATV's Motorcycles lawn tractors ect.....It isin't like I'm going to haul heavy machinery with it.....

It all comes down to your wheel hits a ridge in the road and forces back on the axle which pulls hard on those bolts, The leading edge bolt is the one that sees most of the force being pushed backwards. For the safety of everyone including you on the road and the safety of your quad of bike on the trailer a two ubolt set up on each side would give much more strength. I would hate to see a old bolt and nut break and lose of control of the trailer happen.


Nice work on the trailer.. Will you be decking it with wood? I need to build myself a small trailer..

U-bolts are cheap. Dealing with the aftermath of one failing would not be. That's not a place to cheap out. My $.02...

For $40 or so, I'd add a second bolt.

Do you really want to risk having to repair your tractor if the trailer falls apart under it? Add on to it the hassle of leaving the trailer and tractor on the side of the road somewhere, and having to go get the big one to drag the whole mess home.

That makes sense to me.......I think I'll add a couple of U-bolts and post some pics. I'm going to deck it with 3/4 treated plywood and bolt it down with carrage bolts. Also I'm going to put eye bolts at all 4 corners for securing loads.
