Speed will warm up bearings. If you can put your hand on it and not get burned, it is fine.

This question came up a few months ago regarding new table saw bearings. A Google search for "bearing temperature " will get proper information, but 90* C is a safe bearing temperature.

thanks about advice on bearings. i gave them a few shots of grease in before use. it did like less than 10 hours of work. and chipping was kind of broken down to short intervals with breaks in between doing other jobs around the field, the belt side bearing did have some grease (blackish) seaping out.

i am not sure if i mentioned that they warmed up a bit previously as i have been not much able to be online... but i should check if they are rated to do that much speed. i was doing 790 rpm on tractor (2nd speed) and the pulleys are like1 is to 2.4 in ratio (?) so 1500ish rpms. perhaps they are rated for slower speeds. anyhow. i am not working on it yet since i am devoted to building the Molon belt rake now...

i will re use the chipper (hopefully) in a few months time when broad bean plants are dead/dry to shred their thick stems and bag them for feeding them to sheep throughout our summer. will see how it does then with the modified opening for shredder :/
