I found a box blade a dealer wanted to get rid of, so you can check around. But if I had it to do over I'd get a simple blade that could change from push to shove and angle -- great for snow and gravel. That said, the box blade has been nice for making a couple water diverters in my hilly area. Shop around, call around.

Nice Trailer L! hope that was powder coated...
I suggest a box blade. I have a regular woods grader blade, but it wasn't doing all this work... ![]()

It was powerded coateted at one time, "Was" is the opertive term. Still being used on the Highway, sometimes. Mostly around the yard though.
Plan on getting a bigger one as some tractors won't fit on this.

A ratchet rake may be worthy of looking into (www.ratchetrake.com). Just bought the 52" for my BX25... totally impressed... built like a tank, hardware's heavy duty, goes on and comes off FEL in a blink, afford-ably priced and, so far, I haven't found anything that's advertised that can't be done with ease.

Forum member gfann built a front blade for his tractor that did an excellent job on his gravel driveway. Few days ago I think. Search his posts and you may get some good ideas. Mike

On my 300 foot gravel driveway I use a 6 x 6 timber with a angle iron bolted to one edge. There are two chains connecting it to the 3 pt hitch. One chain gos to the bottom of the 6 x 6 and the other goes to the top. That way I can control the digging the timber does by adjusting the chain lengths. Unless the driveway rock is dry and really hard, the 6 x 6 does a great job.

Soil pulverisor works great. I have a box blade and a pulverisor and the pulversior does a much nicer job. Before and after shots.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I checked out the ratchetrake and I'm thinking that might do everything I need. Anyone else have experience with it?

I've read a lot good stories from ratchet rake owners.
But the toothed box blade may be the better solution for a pot holed driveway like ours. We have a good driveway mix but the pot holes always happen in the same place. The poster that recommends going deep to repair them makes sense.

I just did a neighbor's driveway with my box blade on my bx1860... IT's about 300 feet. After just 30 minutes it was looking amazing. All the potholes were gone. I dug down pretty deep as it was pretty backed 3/4s with fine mostly.
Not to mention, a box blade is useful in many other situations, and also makes a great ballast.

Hauling gravel, or logs with forks on the FEL, the box blade is wonderful as ballast. |
