Building a high tensilve 8 strand fence

I have an apple orchard in the back yard that currently has 28 trees. I am adding to it and have 27 more coming in about 2 weeks. The last honeycrisp I planted were totally wiped out by the bucks rubbing their antlers and breaking them off at the ground. Thus I have to build a fence to protect the new trees. I am new to high tensile fencing and had some from one of my golfing buddies who also brought his New Holland tractor w/12" post hole digger.

This made planting the 10' posts a ton easier.





The key to building this type of fence is the heavy re-inforcement of the corner posts.

Since we had the post hole digger we pre dug the holes for the trees too.

The wire used in this is amazing. Only 12.5 gauge but has a tensile strength of 200,000 PSI. It is possible to cut with a large dike pliars but you will only have enought strength to do it once.

We need details.. Spacing of wire??? Looks like a fence i need to keep deer out and dogs in.. I'm thinking you have 12 inch spacing... Sure is a nice set up. I'm curious. What will you do for a gate? That is a fantastic property you have there...

The bottom wire is aprox. 10" but varies due to the contour of the land. The rest then reference every 9" up so it is 6' 10".

I put the gate up after taking the pictures. It is a 10' footer.

These are all the parts used to make this. Then tensioners are a rachet design.

Here's the gate, it's the low spot on the fence, so it is about 14" off the ground.

I considered putting a couple crabs in for pollinating but they do just fine right now. Off the top of my head I have,

Thanks...I have about 15 Apple trees, 1 peach, and 2 pears right now..plan to do more next week or so also....
I have the same gate from F and F but (2) 16 footers nice and cheap. I put a cable and turn buckle on it ensure it doesn't sag... Where in WI are you? I have 6 acres between Mauston and Lavalle.

I am on the outskirts of Onalaska which is 7 miles North of Lacrosse.

Have you started an IPM? (integrated pest management system) I can bore you aud nausem regarding spraying campaigns and got a chemical applicator's licensce for restricted use chemicals.

not yet, I was just going to try the fruit spray from F and F for now

I have glanced at it and the active ingredients are OK, the only downside is it's so diluted with amount you use, it gets very expensive. When it starts getting hot, spray for scab is every 7-10 days.
