318 for a 425 Trade???

What do you guys think of this? I have a 1991 318 with a 50 inch deck with approx 1000 hours (give or take) and someone has a 1994 425 with a 54 inch deck with approx 1000 hours (give or take). I have been looking for a little bigger tractor and the guy is willing to trade. I would have to put $1250 towards the 425. Does this sound like a good deal? Condition of both of them look to be about the same.

I would not throw that much cash that way. I have a 425 and do think they are better than a 318 nut its a matter of preference really. Pictures would help but you can find 425's in the low 2k range if you look. Maybe only $1k his way.

Depends on the relative condition of the tractors. IMO, if equal $1000 about right. But if the 425 is really nice and the 318 not so much, $1250 may not be bad.

Also, IMO the 425 is a much nicer tractor to operate. I have the diesel version, 455, and the pedal control and differential lock along with the hydraulic PTO actuation and shaft drive to the deck are significant improvements.

I had the 332 (diesel version) of your 318, and moved up to the 455(diesel version) of the 425. As mentioned above , foot operated hydro is much nicer than the hand operated hydro.

$1,250 to boot......has the cam been replaced in the 425? If so, it better run and sound just as good as yours. I don't think $1,250 is out of line, however.

If it was the fuel injected 445, then $1,250 would be easy to swallow.

Personally I wouldn't offer more than $400-$500. He's already interested in your 318. Cash talks and it would be hard for him to walk away from $500 and the 318.
