Picked up Toro 22040 w/ suzuki 2 stroke. Hows everyone like 'em?

I actually paid $350, not $375.
I have installed a inline fuel shut off and also adjusted the governor return spring so that I can get around 3600 rpms at WOT. At 1/2 throttle it runs right around 3000 - 3100 rpms, which is where this engine should be operating ideally from what the manual says.

cut with it the other day, makes great smooth power even in taller grass. I like how 2 cycles bounce right back when you bog them down in TALL grass. My previous 4 cycle mowers weren't as forgiving in tall grass when I would bog them down.

Running the Stihl HP Ultra Full Synthetic in this as well as all my other OPE. Looking forward to putting some hours on the Toro this summer!

Capstan, im going to have to agree with echoman, i think that is most likely a 92 model.

I love my 22040, i rebuilt the motor last season, and it runs so nice and smooth, its built like a tank too.

The one to the right in Indy's pic I believe is the one I own now. I put new tires on it, cleaned and lubed everything, a few adjustments and I used it all last season commercially.

I run Opti-2 primarily, sometimes Amsoil Sabre, but always 100:1.

I believe the high RPM's on those should be about 3200-3300. Check which hole your spring is hooked into (governor spring) If it's in the center or lowest hole you can move it to the top and gain I think about 100 RPMs for each hole. If it's already in the top hole then adjusting is more tedious, loosening the gov. arm, etc. Or you can cheat like I did and bend on the end of the spring to shorten it slightly. I set mine about 3400-3500 with the blade engaged.

According to the 2002 Toro Landscape Products catalog, the blade tip speed listed for all 21" walk-behind mowers with the Suzuki 2-cycle engine (and those with the Kawasaki FC150V 4-cycle OHV engine) is 18,050 fpm, which would translate to 3283 engine rpm. Rounding that off to the nearest hundred would bring you to 3300 (which also means the governed speed should be 3450 rpm with the governor spring in the top hole).

Older versions of the GTS120 (particularly the 1983-89 period) had the governor set to 3000 rpm (3150 rpm if governor spring is in the top hole).

Your Toro is a beauty!!! I would have a hard time using it and want to do a light restoration as that all that it needs and pick up an old 2 or 4 cycle for the use and abuse.

Thanks for the compliment, yea I have a hard time getting it all grassed up when I cut the lawn. I clean it after each use though!

I would use that one and keep my opens on Craigs List and get another mower and alternate between those two. The Toro is in beautiful "original" condition--you can always restore them but you can't make it original again.

Yea I mounted that when I bought the mower. It does RPM/hour. I am seeing about 3450 RPMs.
