Question:
Just a quick question to motorcycle mechanics out there. Is it possible for some reason to leave a 6 to 8 inch long screwdriver inside a tubeless tire on a motorcycle tire change, keep in mind that the screwdriver would be loose inside the tire, and the tire in question would have been balanced and road tested. ![]() I say it is impossible to even atain a proper wheel ballancing, let alone not feel it during the road test after assembly, What say you??

If they did a simple bubble balance they could have "balanced" the tire, but I bet the number of weights needed to do so would be sizeable. You would never have heard the screwdriver in the tire doing a road test but it should have made it shake pretty bad moving around throwing the balance off!

![]() I agree with you, I am asking because a friend mechanic is being accused of leaving a screwdriver in a motorcycle tire, and at That shop They use an electronic balancing machine, and road test each and every repairs to tires, it's the law,. Even if a mistake was made, with the screwdriver, the tire machine would have not returned to 0.0 grams and the installer would have probably not felt it, BUT the road tester would have been troubled with the blurred vision from vibration, NO? This one is a mistery, and I'm having trouble believing the Other Shop's Mechanic who claims he found this screw driver inside this tire. Something like that makes me ![]()

The other mechanic said it went flat. come to think of it, if it is tubeless, and went flat, he would have needed a replacement tire would he not?
I mean you can't patch a tubeless motorcycle tire right?

Yes, I believe a screw driver could have been left in the tire.

What is the purpose of putting a screwdriver in there? I have used a screwdriver to mount a tire, but I don't put it inside.

I would want to see the screwdriver and the tire to see what marks were made. If a screwdriver was left in the tire, the screwdriver itself would be worn, the inside of the tire would be gouged and the rim would have plenty of marks.
If they fail to supply all three for inspection, I would say "tough bullcrap, you're full of it" |

i agree with this! as to leaving one in the tire, a guy i work with will sit a tool down where ever he happens to be when he decides he no longer needs it in his hand. maybe the tire shop guy has the same issue. my installer has been known to set tools down on the floor, boxes, carts, dumpster, building cross member, and once i found his drill in the sink in the men's bathroom. and he wonders why his tool box is always missing several items! this is exactly why my tools are always locked up in my truck!

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to let the mechanic know your support.
The machine he was using is this one. very accurate machine. It is effective to the 1/4 Oz. and extremelly difficult to screw up. (aparently) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roff9eV3HwU
