Hey guys i was reading some info on MTD and craftsman and i wanted to double check something. tomorrow is the friends and family sale and thanks to you all i am headed to get my yt 3000 during the sale. I want to make sure its the 2009 AYP tractor and not a new MTD tractor. How do i ensure that? Which ones are MTD now? Any way to tell difference? Thanks guys.

The Husquvarna model will start with 917.289xx I think MTDis a 247.xxxxxx but I am not sure of that .....yet.

Look under the seat and that's were the model number along with the serial number is too.

ok...ill check under seat. should there be something somewhere that says ayp manufacturing or something? A stamp, sticker or otherwise? Ill check the number under seat too but just wanna be sure. As i recall it does look like those in the pic but it was over two weeks ago when i looked and i didnt think to memorize it.

well ill just check the sticker then. Im pretty sure that the yt3000 is still ayp but just wanted to make sure. Maybe the salesman will know??:ROF (like id trust thier word)

I was thinking the same thing about the salesman...some are ok but not too many here in New germany...ahh...I mean New jersey. Most of the folks barely know the product line at all. The three different guys I spoke with before I bought mine, barely knew anything about the GT-5000. Oh well...

Big stores no longer have specialists in hardware, lawn an garden, etc.
Yer just as likely to find a man in womens undies dept. or a woman in tools an hardware dept. nowdays.
I think they are afraid they will hafta pay them more....

another question.....those 917 numbers...are they part of the sears model number or product number that you can view online or is it totally different? The one im lookin at is Sears Item# 07128921000 | Model# 28921. How do these numbers correspond with the AYP 917 number?

#15 ·
That is an MTD. All AYP tractors will have the number start with 917.xxxxx

The first 3 numbers before the period indicate the manufacturer.
The 5 numbers to the right of the period is the model #

917.xxxxx is AYP
502.xxxxx is Murray
etc.

are you sure? its the same one thats in the 2009 manual? Same tractor on the floor last year? Thought MTD just started in 2010 on only a few models?

#17 ·
Well if its definitely MTD im gonna be rethinking my purchase. Not really a fan of them from what i've read.

Ok those numbers on the website must not be the same as the ones found on the tractors sticker. I just looked at this tractor

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_07128957000P?keyword=lawn+tractor

its a husqvarna sold by them and its sears number and model number as are follows. Sears Item# 07128957000 | Model# 28957. And i know that they are AYP! Ill have to check the tractor.

I can't explain why it doesn't start with 917 but that 07128921000 is definitely an AYP tractor. I can tell just by the muffler heat shield.

That must be a new number set up for Husky. ggsteve is right, it is an AYP Tractor. Maybe they are trying to keep the Husky made Craftsman seperate from the Regular Husqvarna?. Either way, don't worry, that is NOT an MTD product. My Craftsman is made by Husqvarna and I'm really happy with it so far.

i just called the store...the sales associate knew the difference and referenced the 917 number. He went to the tractor lifted the seat and checked. it is a 917. he said those other numbers are in house. that the 917 is followed by the model and mine is 917.289211. The 28921 in the middle is the model. We are good to go except all they have is the flooor model. Mine wont be in till Wednesday cause i didnt want the floor model. ive seen to many brat kids jumping on these and jerkin on all the shifters and switches when parents arent looking. Ill wait my few days to get a cherry one!!

Cool, mystery solved. Good ol' Sears, they have too mny numbers for their own good. Don't blame you on not wanting the floor model. I wouldn't want it either without a fairly big discount for the exact reasons you gave. Be sure to post pics when you get the new machine.

Congratulations!:wwp: :wwp:

will do. thanks again guys. Now i just hope they don't try to pull a fast one on me and put the floor model in the back after i pay. (the salesman thought it was stupid that i didn't want the floor model) I know that's real suspicious of me but with the new line coming out you never know.

#26 ·
already ahead of ya brother! lol Sad world huh

#28 ·
well husqvarn is made by ayp thats what i meant when i said it earlier.

#32 ·
not sure what deluxe ordering is but im gonna mark the floor model somehow and have them order me one. thanks for clarifying the husqvarna/ayp confusion.

It's a service that sears does and that I do to all my tractor sales. They will set up the tractor at the warehouse and the deliver it and do a demo and explain all the features on it.
When you get one all that has to be done is gas it and enjoy.

Oh one other thing, if you buy an accesorie for it ( cart or what ever ) it will be assembled free of charge when the order is deluxed!!

#37 ·
well guys i just got home from sears. My tractor will be in wednesday at the earliest and friday at the latest. Im pumped. I tell you what they sure push that extended warranty dont they!

#38 ·
Yes, they push it. I bought it but only because they gave me $100 off. Using it can be a challenge. It can often take two weeks or more to get an appointment, and then if parts are needed you have to wait for the parts and then schedule ANOTHER appointment. Bad enough when your lawn is growing but completely unacceptable when it is needed for snow removal. Then when the tech comes you might not get the service you're looking for. If you have some time you can read my saga:

i passed due to cost. I may go back in the 14 days and try to haggle them for getting it half price or something. But for me 309 dollars for a 1200 dollar tractor dont add up. that 300 should replace or repair just about any problem encountered i would think.
