Red, I need your help again........24 hp Briggs Intek aint firing.
Went to mow the sides of the road in front of the house today and the mower wont crank up. Turns over just fine, just wont fire. Pulled the plugs out and looked for fire, none. Took the cover off the engine exposing the flywheel and the 2 coils, with plug wires coming out to the plugs. Could not see anything wrong.

Now I'm thinking that the coils are grounded out so I start looking and see where each coil has a wire plugged into it on the bottom so I thought I could unplug those, and it should fire, but it didnt. I even went as far as polishing up the magnet on the flywheel though I have laughed at other people doing that before and of course that didnt help.

I dont know where to go next. IF the flywheel is turning, and there are no wires hooked to the coil to ground them out, it should be firing, right?

Hey Red, you are the only one that I feel gives me 100% accurate information. Can you check my post on Boiling Gas in a Briggs Over Head engine. There are a couple of us with the identical problem. Thank you. Steve

Also, I am thinking of trying to press off good cam lobes to replace worn ones. Main problem as I see it is positioning. I am thinking of a jig to help with that using a "U" shaped bracket with cutouts on each side to fit good camshaft lobes. I think the local Junior College welding shop might help with their plasma cutter. I would pack the shaft in dry ice before pressing lobe on. A spot of weld, MIG or TIG might be necessary, again I think the school would help IF needed. Not practical for you I know but an interesting challenge for me. My friends have been having a number of these.

Yah, a friend and "co-conspirator" gave me the engine in exchange for some work. He likes to give me what he thinks is junk in exchange for rebuilding engines. Once in awhile he gets fooled. I have pretty much quit doing work for myself so I don't mind dabbling at something. This is the first of these I have had. It appears some parts will interchange with 28 series OHV.

    Thanks,

    Walt

Hey Red, do you have a good camshaft for a 12.5 hp OHV B&S, model 21A707, part 697745 or 799400?

Red, you ever had any experience with electric PTOs? Like on an electric engage mower deck? My Son in law has one on a huskee GT24 that works sometimes, like when I'm there, and wont work at other times. Actually, I think it might be when it gets hot.

    Thanks for the help!
