Buying advice on JX75

I have been looking at a JX75. He is asking $250. It looks good in the pictures and comes with the bag and mulch plug. That trans has issues, but I think that is the only problem. I know it is a great mower, but it is way more than I usually pay for a mower. Should I pull the trigger?

Hiya fellas,

new guy here so bear with me if any of my questions seem redundant. I just ordered my first "Real" tractor, a 2012 2320! I'm so pumped! will be delivered next Friday and I got a pretty good deal from what I can tell. I have a few questions if anyone would be so kind as to answer for me to help a newby out. More like a list of what I plan to do and what I plan to use.

the Tractor
2012 JD 2320
62" 7 iron drive on deck
53" quick mount loader
Ag tires
Paid $16,200

Oil- either Amsoil full syn or Shaeefers 7000 5w-40 change at 50hrs
Trans & hydro- Amsoil tractor transmission fluid.
Temp Guage- Putting one on
Filters- OEM UNLESS there is any better options?
front gears- amsoil gear lube
fuel additive- Optilube XPD

Power... I heard there is a way to turn up the fuel pump on these things. something I may do after the warranty is out. any experience. anyone done any power increasing mods other than turbo (which is pretty **** cool).

Thanks a lot for looking and I look forward to sharing pics and experience with you all very shortly,

I recently used a 30" mower with my 73 super convertible. The PTO wouldn't stay engaged so I did a stupid thing and held the rod up with a pair of Vice-grips. This worked for a while but then the mower stopped working. I took the mower off and disassembled the PTO and found the trunnion ground up until it was half worn away. I also noticed that the whole PTO housing area didn't seem very oily. I was under the impression that the PTO received splash oiling from the F/R area and the oil pressure bypass. I would have thought that the whole mechanism in the housing should be dripping with oil. Is this correct thinking or do I have to grease all of those pieces? Any info would be appreciated. TIA

Just got my X320 delivered yesterday. Originally bought an X300, but after reading this forum decided to trade for an X320 before I even used it. After reading about the possible K46 issues, I decided I wanted a machine with a K58 drive unit and after considering the additional benefits of more power, larger deck (48 vs 42), larger tires, deck lift assist spring and low fuel light, I felt the higher cost was well justified.

Now the bad part-it won't fit through my gate (42" deck wouldn't either)!!!

I'm having a 10 foot double gate installed next week. The grass in my hilly .25 acre backyard is really getting high. I know an x320 is probably overkill for my small yard, but I wanted something that will last and also easily pull my 10P cart, so I decided to really go for it!

I'm almost 65 and not in the best of health, so pushing my old Honda 21" mower through another summer of 100 degree heat was out of the question and my wife couldn't pull the starter cord of the old mower.

I'll let you know how it goes after my first use. It sure does look pretty parked in the garage though!

Thanks for the advice I have already received from this forum.

Mike

Then I could not get it out of 3rd gear. I finally rocked my mower back and forth until I finally could get it into neutral. I put it back in 3rd gear and it still goes, but now it makes a knocking sound when I am going forward. All the other gears do not make any noise. Just 3rd gear. The noise gets faster as the mower goes faster. Any ideas of what this could be? And is it an easy fix. I would rather not put a whole new trans. in.

i just recieved a 1971 JD 110 with intentions of repairing/restoring it. It currently runs and came with a 38" deck. I needed a lawn mower and this came at the right price (free). I have never restored anything, but I am willing to give this one a try. Alright, so I replaced the belts last weekend and changed the oil. Thankfully it is not burning oil, but I do have a problem and I don't know if it is related to the carb or not. After cranking, an intense smell of exhaust is present. So bad, that my eyes are watering and riding along for just a few minutes is pretty painful. Any ideas? I'm taking this one step at a time :)

Had some time this week to get new (old) plow cleaned up and painted.
I partially disassembled the blade so blasting and painting would be easier.
It really is in decent shape and shows little to no use. It is not bent or twisted at all.
I removed the cutting edge so I could blast/paint behind it, ended up flipping so fresh edge is ready. Has some deep pitting from where it was sitting in barn etc on floor/dirt. Nothing goes through and blasting got pits cleaned out. Paint flowed pretty good into these areas. Has a rough texture but it's just a plow, over 30 years old at that (guessing). I used RO Regal Red, thinned with acetone. Sprayed well through the Binks CUB SLG gun. This is a good match I found from others on forum. I'm not too picky as I just want it to stop rusting.
I am doing the frame later today if I get time. Once all is assembled I'll post final pictures.
I may try to find decals but not a huge priority.

Inherited a sweet YTH1542XLS from a family member a few months back. In transporting it over to my house though I think we borked the "fine" adjustment knob somehow. The lever on the right side raises and lowers the deck as it is supposed to. The fine adjustment knob on the left. however, just seems to spin as if its not connected to anything any longer. Turning that knob does not make any changes to the height as shown on the indicator. Luckily its currently set at 4" so I'm happy with it but I'd like to be able to fine tune the height come the fall for leaf pickup and the final "buzzcut" for winter.
Any ideas what may have been broken or unhooked and if it's a user friendly repair?
Thanks..and enjoy the LONG weekend!

What I am saying is - this tractor works great. (All it needs is paint -that is the fun part) Also included are extra set of turf tires and rims, chains, front rims and misc. other parts.

Hi All,

I've got about a 1000 get off driveway to maintain. I've currently got a DR Power Grader as and a 6 door scraper blade. The Power Grader works fine... But it never takes long for my potholes to come back. They get filled in with loose material but very quickly that materiel is knocked back out by vehicular traffic and the pothole is right back.

One suggestion I've heard is that I need to rip up the area around the potholes as and then let it be recompacted by traffic. that way instead of hard packed large areas with little small holes with loose material in them we have larger softer areas that could all get compacted together and instead of getting kicked out of the small hole. A box blade would work for this.

what are your thoughts on this? Should I try a box blade, or should I just keep at it with what I've got and eventually it will stick?

other implements I've considered are a land planer and landscape rake. But it seems like they would have the same problem that my power grader has. It would fill in the low spots, but then after a very short. Of time the loose material in a little spots would get kicked out but I'd by traffic and I'll be right back where I started.

Replaced fuel filter she's getting fuel. Disconnected seat switch that didn't help. I'm thinking it may be the coil. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys! This question is for those of you who use a bag on your mower to collect the lawn clippings. How often do you make an effort to clean your mower bags? It seems that certain times of the year the mowers are picking up more than just grass, especially in the spring and the fall and all that residue seems to clog up the bag just like a vacuum cleaner bag gets clogged up and wont vacuum as well. I think the bag needs good air flow through it in order to ensure that the clippings are carried freely into the bag. I usually hang mine up on the clothes line every couple of months and give them a good hosing, both inside and out, to flush out a lot of the stuff that is stuck in the pores of the bag. They just seem to work and bag better when they are clean and can breath. Bill

Howdy, all, and sorry if I'm posting to the wrong forum.
I have a drive that's basically packed sand.

I'm about to put down a layer of gravel (also called caliche or roadbase around here). It's a rough material around 2-3" in diameter. May follow up with a layer of smaller diameter rock (limestone) to lock it all together.

Question is: Is a 2" layer of roadbase sufficient? Traffic will obviously be light and limited to our vehicles & tractor plus the occasional UPS van. No heavy equipment, cement mixers, etc.

What's been y'all's experience? Will 2" do it?

Thanks in advance! :D

I have a X749 with under 300 hours and the warranty is ending soon and wanted see if these were "normal". I've not had the tractor that long so I'm not sure what it's supposed to be like.
1. Do you have any slop in your rear wheels? If I grab my wheels I can move them a little from side to side. The fronts seem solid.
2. When driving forward on a hill, with the cab on (300lbs), on the driveway when I slow down I can feel some thumping from what seems like the gears in the transmission or as if I had chains on the tires. Is this normal? It's much more pronounced with the cab on I assume due to the weight. I could still feel a slight thumping on the driveway with the cab off but it was subtle. I have changed the transmission fluid and it looked good. I have a X700 (2wd and 2ws) and it's really smooth. I suspect it's just the AWD but wanted to be sure while it's under warranty.
3. When going up a hill is the forward foot pedal harder to push? Again I really notice this when the cab is on. My dad says with his 2305 when going up a hill he can't tell the difference.

Thanks!

It was off when I got it and im sure im missing a bracket or something. 2= Is there anywhere other than the dealer to get new deck spindles for the 46 inch deck? 3 @ 155 each is gonna get pretty expensive quick. 3= On the carb above the line that feeds the fuel there are two nipple looking pieces one with a hole and one without the one between the linkage and the block has had a piece of hose put on it and blocked off. If you remove it gas comes out while its running and drips on the sheet metal. Does anyone know what that is and what it needs to be hooked to instead of just blocked off? Thanks a lot Im now gonna attempt to load pics of the carb. Wish me luck.

I just saw where one fellow trimmed his chute guard so that the grass kicked out/up more and hopefully keep the deck cleaner too. I had already considered something along these lines. Someone else used a bungee cord to keep it partially open. Whats the best mod that will also keep it safe?

I did see where Sears sells some sort of hose attachment that could be used to spray it clean- but where would it be placed in order to get the entire thing clean?

Went to take it out of the garage an hour later and it started and ran fine for 25 feet and then stopped.

After it died the instrument panel was totally dead with no lights and the starter does not click when the key is turned but the headlights are bright when turned on.

Is there a master fuse or circuit breaker that kills all but the lights?

No dash power (goes through ignition switch i presume) but still have good headlight power.

I'm thinking any of the safety switches would kill the engine but not the entire dash electrical.

Thoughts?

Fellow MTF member trac-son(Mike) and I did a freshwater trip last weekend at a local pond that sits back in the woods. The action wasn't lively, but we decked a few. We started out fishing Mepps in-line spinners with a touch of success. Mike nailed this largemouth with one.

After a bit we switched to salted fleck plastic worms. That enticed the pickerel. Mike nailed the first couple.

At this point, I'm having a rough day.......and Mike's smiling my way a bit too much. Then I have a nice hit............ and the fish snaps my line :banghead3 The next pass I dropped the worm in the exact same spot and he nails it again. The water heaved....... this one had some shoulders. A nice fight and a few spirited runs later, I landed a 27", four lb. pickerel. One of the larger ones I've ever caught. Made a nice day on the water even better. I think I heard Mike muttering something about a lucky old man, lol.

This past January I picked up a brand new X749, with it I got the 54" deck. Spring was rather late this year in MN so I have only been mowing a couple of weeks. The first two times when the lawn was starting to grow, I used the side discharge and the cut seemed OK. The last week or so after some fertilizer and a lot of rain, my grass has really thickened up. I then installed the JD mulch kit, the included blades seemed sharp, I verified deck level side to side and the front slightly lower than the back. When I mow, no matter if I go at a snail's pace or slightly faster, I get two windrows of cut grass about where the blade tips of the center blade would be. In these two windrows I also have approx. 1" width of uncut grass. Also the cut seems very uneven, some of it seems as though the grass has been laid over rather than cut. I understand factory blades might not be the sharpest but I would think that I should get a few decent cuts out of them before sharpening. But what I'm most concerned about is why I am getting stripes of uncut grass at the blade tips of the center blade??? Any thoughts as to what I am missing or not doing?

Anyway here is a video of what I'm getting. Because its acting about the same as it did before I replace the pump, I am suspicious of the gun or pressure hose. Here is a poorly shot YouTube video of the issue..

What does a faulty pressure gun act like? I get an initial surge. And then no real pressure....

Thanks

I have a 14SE that I have owned since new. The carb is spotless; clean and no varnish. At the end of last season, it wouldn't start. Drained the gas tank, and figured I would tackle it this year.

I replaced the ignition with a AM121796 (Kawasaki Part with a JD tag) that I purchased from the local JD dealer.

I installed the part, and still no joy. No spark from the plug. No spark from the rubber boot w/o the plug. I show a gain of about 7v on a voltmeter when trying to start.

I don't know if it is a bad ignition part or just a plug.

Ideas?

Thanks, Doug
I think there are 2 springs on the deck but not here to look at right now. One is for tension on the pto and the other is for tension on the deck itself. There are no JD dealers close to us so I either need a part # for the spring or a discription of what it might be called. And maybe a place to buy it on the net. I would really appriciate it
