View Full Version : Mysteriously Dead Mahindra 6530 2WD

Took delivery of a new 6530 this past week. Only have 6.4 hours on the clock so far. Was clipping with it Sunday afternoon and shut it off to take a break and when I got ready to get back to work it acts liked a safety switch isn't working right.
Shifter in neutral, Hi-Lo in neutral, PTO disengaged, but no joy when I turn the key. Plenty of electricity; the horn blows, lights work etc.
The only thing obvious I see is a little spring hanging down free under the fender that looks like it ought to be hooked to something and working a brake light switch or some such thing.
I'm guessing a wire came loose on one of those neutral safety switches but not sure where to start looking and hope to get it going again without having to drag it out of field to the dealer or bring mechanic to it. I don't have a trailer handy that I'd feel comfortable hauling it on without a major effort to load a dead tractor with the FEL on the ground and a Sidewinder behind it.
Any suggestions for where to start looking would be greatly appreciated since all I get are busy signals at the dealer right now.

Talked to the dealer. He said he hadn't had any problems with this model giving people a problem like this but that shifting it in and out of gear a few times should get the switches to work.. Also said to look under left floorboard for the PTO switch and make sure wire hadn't slipped off. Went back out there and futzed with it a bit, verified the wire was still on the PTO safety switch, and eventually it decided it was back in a mood to start again.
I'm hoping this doesn't become a habit.
What bugs me most is I had already done most of that at least twice when it first failed to start. I don't mind things that break and stay broke until fixed as much as these things that don't work then mysteriously start back working. They make you not trust equipment since you don't know when it will happen again.
Guess I'll cross my fingers and hope it's a case of a new switch sticking.
Speaking of sticking, I caught myself having to tap the Tach to get the needle to move for the second time in the tractor's short life. That's more like something I expected to have to do with the 30 year old tractors I'm trying to get away from using.
Over all it's a nice tractor so far, but I'm not used to new equipment having issues before I have 10 hours on there.

You may want to contact customer support...

or Brenda Bradshaw. If you don't know Brenda, she goes by the user name Jsupport over on TBN and is MahindraUSA's online Customer Relations contact person...at least she used to be...;)

:Welcome1:
I also have a mahindra (E350-di model). I haven't had any of the issues that you are experiencing with my tractor. Our tractor has been issue free since new in 2003.
Is your tractor a 2009 model or 2008? If it is a new 2008 model that had been sitting outside at the dealership for a few months, then you may be experiencing minor oxidation on the electric contacts (or the contacts may just be dirty from dust). I would bet that your issues will work out on their own within a few hours of use. Auto part stores do carry contact spray cleaner specifically for electronic connectors and switches.
Let's see some pictures of that tractor!

Hey Jim, I have a 5500 2 WD, mine would do the same thing you have. I found out by trial and error that the PTO switch under the driver side step would stick from time to time, so tapped on it with a tool and it will start right up.

Have you jumped the Starter Solenoid to start the tractor?
Safety switch was lose on my PTO level caused this problem for me.

Did you remember that the PTO has to be disengaged to start the tractor?
The next time it fails to crank, put a jumper wire across the transmission safety switch. If that doesn't work, put the jumper wire across the PTO safety switch. This will either isolate the problem to one of the safety switches or absolve them.
The only other place that I can think of is the starter solenoid. Make sure you have it in neutral when you jumper it.
