I was reading many posts over the last two days and a light bulb went off. I had the post about the 12.5 Brigg's that was running at high RPM's and smokeing when I first started it.

I read somewhere here that a stuck float could cause the fuel to run into the piston area and eventually into the oil. It was mentioned that it was one cause of these motors blowing.

Well that is exactly what I found when I drained the oil. There was a pint more than it should have had and it was as thin as water. The smell of gas was very strong. If I had mowed with it I would have risked ending a very good motors life early.

I have put a fuel cut off valve in the line and Sea Foam in the gas so we'll see what happens over the next couple of tanks. A carb. rebuild is probably next but I wanted to try the Sea Foam. I had never heard of it until this site. Their promo that I found when I searched it sold me.

Anyway guys even though I don't know which posts I saw this info in I wanted to tell you thanks and I'll try to repay the favor.

Hey Geo T,

Just as Ken said...that's why we're here :trink40: !

Can't tell you how many times I've chased phantom problems and discovered here at MTF that the trouble shooting direction I was going was 180° off. I've also founds 'tons' of great info in our MTF Reference Library too.

:Welcome1: Yup, that's what MTF is all about! Hope the Seafoam works for you.

As long as she runs good, don't worry with new float needle for the carb. These carbs will just do it again. Leave the shuttoff on & use it religiously....will solve the problem.

Thanks for posting your success, Geo T. Glad you found your fix, and took the time to make mention. Drop in often. Never know what you'll learn around here.

Glad to hear that!!! SOme members saved me a lot also over the years!! Just this year the new Huski that we had gotten for my mom's place, started having a starting problem. Turned out just to be a valve adjustment issue. Saved me a lot of money, and time!!!!

you might have some dirt that got past the fuel filter laying inside the seat take the bowl off and clean it out with carb cleaner and compressed air blowing threw the lines oh and good luck!

that is a good reason to change the oil in the engine a lot! I'm going to keep that in mind! Thanks every one I'm loving this site

Like stated previously--oil is still very cheap--engines are NOT....:goodl:
