Today I had to put Sammie down. She was suffering from hepatitis she was 11 years old.
I remember the day we found her at the animal shelter in Lancaster CA. she was a Maine coon kitten and she absolutely melted my heart. She came home with us that day. As it turn out she was abused by her former owner and it took a long timer for her to trust and warm up to us. She was a wonderful pet and was a fun cat.
Last year I lost Charlotte at this same time last year and my wife 3 years ago in June.
I will miss them very much.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. It is amazing how attached we get to our pets. I think it is because they love us so faithfully and unconditionally.

Very sorry to hear of all your losses.
Very sorry. I remember when Charlotte passed. You mentioned that Sammie was a tie to the past. It does break your heart. One of these days there will be a new kitten that puts your heart back together that needs your love and affection. Until then, our sympathy.

My sympathies. I've lost two, and was "without" for the last several years. I recently pickup up a "little brown cat" that had been a stray. She's curled up on the footrest of the easy chair, right now.

My prayers and thoughts to you also...having two "indoor" cats myself,I know the pain when th inevitable day comes you must part with them--been there and done that several times..
I had a cat named "Tripper" for 11 years,he ended up getting diabetes, and died shortly after he was diagnosed..named him that because he'd always wrap himself around your legs, usually while you were carrying food!.."tripped" us all the time..
Another cat we had ,"Rusty" was an orange tabby,THE most affectionate cat we've ever had--you couldn't sit down 10 seconds, without him jumping up in your lap and falling asleep almost instantly, and you'd have to PRY him off ,if you had to get up!..he had a cancerous tumor removed on his head when he was only 2,but lived to hit 9,before he too got very ill and we had to finally have him euthanized..I could not bring him to the vet,my brother had to do it..
I had buried "Tripper" in our back yard, and many of our "outdoor" strays we cared for that got hit by cars too,and one I think a neighbor who hated cats posioned with anti-freeze..I couldn't bear digging another grave..
I'm not looking forward to losing either of the two cats I have now...I dread that day, just as I dread losing my ailing mother, who is 80 now..
"Kit-Cat" is a "used" cat ,a white short haired male with gold eyes,we got from a guy who was moving and couldn't have pets at his new apartment--dont know how old he is,and I think he was abused ,he is a great cat,but has a hard time trusting people, especially those who yell at him like my mom..I hate it when people abuse animals OR other people, there just is no need for it..he's got a personality all his own..he seems to like me best,I guess he's a "guys" cat, doesn't warm up to women much at all, maybe one mistreated him in his youth?..
Our other cat is "Puff-Puff",a very long haired white female with gold eyes, looks like an angora or persian..she's a bit weird too,but a good cat just the same..
Hope you can bear the loss of your kitty "Sammie" OK,and can smile when you think of all the joy she brought into your life..just think what may have become of her if you hadn't found her,I'm sure she appreciated all th love you gave to her..

Sorry for your loss of your friend. I have a cat that calls my garage home-she keeps the mice away from my Tractors-and I feed her. She has turned out to be a very good companion. Grieve for a while, then get another one to fill the void-Good Luck-AL

I add our thoughts of sympathy to this thread also, Wifey and I know just what you are and have been going through. 2 weeks ago the vet came for our routine yearly exam for our bunch of 4 cats.. Our 16 yr old c "Mr. Bub's" blood came back showing an inoperable liver tumor... (I can hardly type it...). Vet says from 3 days to 3 months... so far he's still OK but...
