Hi all, bear with me I am not a big tractor buff
Back history, for question(s) skip to end
I've had a Murray 12hp 42" 5spd tractor for well mowing my lot (about 4-5 acres) Any ways last year I let my father use it and he killed the engine in it. It is a Briggs and Straton 12hp I&C engine. He killed the starter, it now has no compression, and the carb is messed up in it.
So the other day I pulled the B&S 8.5hp IC from my Ford LT8 which was running and good just no deck. I swapped the pulleys out on the engine and dropped it right in and got her going. When I started looking around on this site, I found out that the rear end that is in this Murray is quite weak and needs to be taken easy.
Now the question is, Is the rear in the Ford LT 8 better than the rear in the Murray? and if it is will it work in this Murray?
The rear from the Ford LT8 is a 5spd as well.
The whole reason why I ask is that I am kinda abusive towards my equipment and it needs to be able to take a punishment. Up to now the Murray just did lawn duties, and the Ford LT 8 did the other work using a trailer to move the debris from the yard to the woods. And the trailer it used was a stripped down pop up camper.
