This has been out for a few months but it's worth repeating for those who haven't seen it: Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/)

It's pretty slick, and a lot better than MapQuest which I've never thought was that great.

That's pretty nice, I just wish we showed up on these map things. Our address doesn't show up on any map online. :banghead3

Which I suppose can be a good thing. :fing32:

Your right Mow, it is better than Map Quest. At the very least, Goggle Maps has my house located correctly. If you used Map Quest and followed the map they have to find my house you would find yourself on the wrong street, and nearly five miles too far north, over in a neighborhood known to be inhabited by bootleggers and chickens thieves, and probably some unsavory characters.

I like my (no internet connection required) Delorme Street Atlas even better. It not only allows me plan my trips before hand but I am able to make changes in route. With the GPS gismo connected to my laptop I can take the map along with me on my trip and know where I am at all times. This helps to keep me on route and helps me get back on route when I do make a wrong turn (this is usually my wife’s fault). It has been great when I’ve broke down beside the Interstate and had to call a tow truck. Using this system I was able to pin point my location for the driver.

I used Map Quest all the time in the past, even printed their maps to carry on trips. Now I use The Delorme Street Atlas and enjoy it a whole lot more than any printed map.

Great link, Mow. Thanks.
The navigation is also so much smoother and easier to use than MapQuest.

Yet another bookmark to replace.... LOL

The maps are easier to use then the mapquest maps but the driving instructions are a little goofy (questionable) I just made up a request to go from my home to Las Vegas, and it had me going on a bit of a jog from my place to Ogden, Utah then to Las Vegas versus the route I usually take to go see my Aunt who lives in Vegas. I just head south on I-5 until I get to San Francisco then I jog over to California Highway 99 to Bakerfield then to I-15 and onto Vegas. :banghead3 :banghead3

Hey! It works for me now. Don't know whether it's due to 1.7.6 or scripts permissions, but it works in all my browsers. :D Navigation is definitely easier than MapQuest, but the directions leave something to be desired & my address doesn't exist. Oh well, it IS still in beta. I bet it'll really kick-azz when it goes gold!

john-in-ga I had a neighbor with one of those GPS/software/laptop
setups. I think it was the program you have, but I can't remember. It was pretty slick though.

Catdaddy I like Google Maps better just because it is so much more detailed. I never used the driving directions on either, just the visual, which a Mapquest was sorely lacking, IMO. When I first used the Google beta, it would work on Firefox, but not Safari. Now it works on both. Pretty good effort from Google so far--might be a company to watch.

No doubt, thanks for that link. Much better than MapQuest IMO. And similar to Kid Muddy, this is the first that actually recognized my address and even had it on the map.

I travel with the GPS/laptop setup. I use two programs... DeLorme and 'Microsoft streets and trips'. Each has its' advantages, but with Microsoft I miss DeLorme's little man giving audio directions to alert when a turn is coming up. Microsoft, however, does work from the hard drive, saving the CD for other uses.
