We have had the killer bees for over 15 years now. The underground hives are not a problem here the Fire Ants take care of those.
Before you mow, clear land, or other yard work you do the "Walk, Look, and Listen" before doing anything! Walk the Land, Look it over, and Listen for bees! (also rattlesnakes, copperheads, feral hogs, bobcats, wild dogs, and look for pioson ivy and oak).
That extra 5 minutes can save your alot of pain and your life. Planning an escape route would also be good!

That is terrible.
When I was 15, I was cutting grass to make some money, and ran over a thick clump of grass that stalled my push mower. As I was about to pull start it, i felt something bite my leg. I swatted it and started to pull again and felt another bite.
Turned around and realized I was being engulfed by yellow jackets. I started flailing my arms and running to the screend in porch.
By the time I was inside I had been stung between 30 to 40 times, and still had them trying to sting my shoes, but by that point I didn't care.
My buddy came in and killed the ones still alive on my shoes, got his mower, and then grabbed my mower and ran to the truck.
I went home and took a cold shower, and when I got out, I looked like the Elephant man. I called my brother and he came and took me to the doctor and they gave me a shot. Within a few hours, the swelling was gone and I was back to normal, although I was scared as hell about running over thick grass for a while.

My prayers go out to the ladies family.
Now I am going to rant. What a bunch of crappy reporting. They said Yellow Jackets in the report did the stinging.
YELLOW JACKETS ARE WASP NOT BEES!!!!!!
If news reporters would remember to say wasp or hornets did the stinging and not lump all stinging insects in a bee group we bee keepers wouldn't have such a hard time finding places to put colonies. We also wouldn't have to spend so much time educating people. Shoot we might even get some younger people intrested in becoming bee keepers. Write a letter to that news station protesting their crappy reporting.
