ok call me immature.. but ive always wanted one of those fast remote control cars..
I have a walmart brand and it does pretty good.. but id love to get a fast electric one to really piss the dogs off.. plus it could make a great alcohol transport system between the house and the back yard....
i had this in my favorites.. not sure if it was suggested? fusion??
or if i found it myself...
what do you think?
its electric.. i dont want gas because of the noise... but it still is supposed to go something like 28 mph (i think)

Aint nothin' immature about RC trucks...the older ya get, you just get something faster. I could have very well suggested a Traxxas, as they make a great product. the 2 speed is cool, the shaft drive is more maintenance free, ball bearings are a plus, and adjustable caster, etc. are great too. There is nothing wrong with battery power. The only difference between battery and nitro or gas power is the noise level. There are many battery powered cars, boats, and trucks that flat out scream. I wish I still had the video clip of the battery powered boat doing I think 123 MPH.
Funny you should post this, as I just charged the battery pack on my buggy and plan to run it either today or Monday. Although the pic sucks, this is the one I posted for sale awhile back- but still have. It is all wheel drive, and is like half way between a road car and a truck. It might do 35 MPH, but that is alot faster than many realize, when your trying to control it. It is also very rugged. You can drop it from waist level onto pavement, and it just squats down.
If you really run it, you will eventually need to replace some parts. But I think you will be amazed at how tough they really are. Run it, and have a blast- that's what it's all about! Just maintain it. Take care of it, ad it will take care of you.

Hey Admin., when you get that remote, here is your Avatar!

Maybe I will make that track in my backyard afterall!
What I don't get is that it describes it with 14.4 volt motors, and the battery pack is the standard 1400 mh 7.2 volt pack, and 20% nitro. What am I missing?

carl i asked about that.. the nitro is a typo... its battery powered..
BTW:
any thoughts on getting this stuff on ebay? stuff like the battery and chargers? maybe it would be a bit cheaper but not sure if id be buying someones old junk just listed as new...
ok call me immature.. (nuff said..ROF)
...plus it could make a great alcohol transport system between the house and the back yard....
For $300..?. I'd get a portable TV, lounge chair, and an...........ice box. ROF

Even nitro powered cars need a battery pack. I have a 1000 mAh pack in my buggy. Its just for the reciever and servos.

I run a Associated RC10T2. I think the one thing you will be most disappointed with is the lack of battery life. You are really only looking at around 5 minutes or so, depending on the motor you have in it per battery charge. These things were meant to race and race only. I've tried the alcohol delivery system. Unfortunately you only get 1 delivered before you start running the truck around the yard and consequently run the battery out, then have to get off your lazy butt and get the beers manually. As for messing with the dogs, I know I wouldn't. My dog is too big and would destroy my toy and that would not be good. :banghead3

MARK is that typical with these electric cars? do they all only have 5 minutes of run time? even in low gear? i planned to get an extra battery but thought id get more than a fe minutes worth of time out of them..

Well, I speak from experience with MY truck. I get 5-7 minutes, IIRC. Its been a few years since I had her out so I could be off a little, but I don't think you are looking at more than 10. Of course, I am running what is considered a modified engine so it is sucking down the juice. Stock motor will give you a little more, but its not as fast ;)
Of course, I'm hoping that someone here will either confirm or deny what I am saying. I honestly can't recall the batt life, but I know it is short.

Thanks i just called the place.. i spoke to someone who claimed to own one..
he said it lasts about 15 minutes... itt akes 2 batteries packs to run it
and he said the quick charge.. although quick, decreases the overall life of the battery pack..
he said the slow way increases battery life.. and said his batteries lasted 2 months... which he felt was pretty good...
that was a suprise to me.. i assumed the batteries would last for a bit longer than a few months... He said he ran his almost daily.. so maybe that makes then die sooner??
no idea..

My 1000 mAh battery pack lasts about 15-20 minutes on a charge. Thats really longer than you think it is, especially when youre driving it. I am on the same battery pack- it has been in my buggy for a year and a half, and was in a boat for almost a whole Summer before I put it in the buggy...but I dont run it all the time.
Greg
15 minutes is a very long time... Set an alarm clock and put it next to your computer. Start reading and posting on the MTF and see who long it takes for the clock to go off. You would not be running that long, even racing, I would think....but we don't know how fast SJ drinks beer, either.. ROF.

Well, they say time flies when you are having fun and I suppose that no matter how long the battery lasts you will still be wishing that it would go longer.
My 5-7 minute run time was based on racing. Essentially you have the pedal to the metal the entire time only letting off (very briefly) for the turns. I suppose if you are just tooling around your yard and doing the occasional donut it would last a good bit longer.
Anywho. They are definitely a blast, and I hope my posts weren't meant to try and persuade you from getting one. I love mine and always have a good time with it. Just buy extra battery packs and keep your peak charger running at full bore.
I do know one that and that is this thread is making me want to get mine back out :fing32: and run her around the yard.

Mark

Again, thats quite a bit of time. When you get it, if you like it, you will pursue it. If you pursue it, you will start looking at different chargers, battery packs, etc., then by that time you will be hooked. Then you'll think about asphalt rather than dirt, then you'll start thinking water, then it's airplanes, etc.
Something else to take into consideration- you might think its a pain that a battery pack only lasts 10-20 minutes, but I consider a 1/4 mile walk down a blacktop path to the pond with a 12 pound boat a hassle. Airplanes and gas/nitro boats will run all day on one charge, but you gotta go somewhere to use them. Every type of RC vehicle has it's pros and cons, but fortunately with each type and at each level, there is something that is fairly simple and economic to operate and maintain. Learning is just a bonus and yields pride. And regardless of how far you decide to take it performance-wise, the options are there.

Heres a link showing 2 dogs beating that above RC car.. (http://home.comcast.net/~ctimjones/RC_Car01_HQ-VBR.mpg)
Most of the information given out is for the competition batteries which are 1400 MAH. You can also find batteries that have 1600, and I think 1800 MAH. These will last longer. Also it is correct that the 5 minute rating is for racing. Of course who can just cruise with one of those cars? You could also find a smaller motor to install in it. That would also increase the battery life.
These batteries also like to be completely discharged before recharged. Most racers have a resistor, or a couple of 12 v lights in parallel to drain the batteries.

Thats why I like nickel-metal hydride packs. You can charge them anytime, without worrying about the battery memory thing. I usually draw them all the way down every 5 or 6 charges just to check the battery packs condition. After totalling a 48" offshore cat only minutes after its maiden voyage due to a weak signal- or should I say total lack of signal, I don't like to take chances.
Keep us posted on your truck after you get it. You're gonna have a blast with that thing.

I know on my RC10 i don't think i ever got over ten mins on a charge. By the way does anybody know if they still make rims and tires for the old old RC10s?

Jeez John... That car didn't stand a chance!

The big dog was on it like white on rice.
Jody,
Wheels and tires are standard. So unless yours are a special shape or color you can get standard wheels that will fit. And tires are just like car tires. They are made to fit the wheels.
If you go to a hobby shop that caters to the RC cars you will be able to find something that will fit.

wow i got 2 of those edge runner cars
they were on sale for 29$ and after watchnig the dogs beat the thnig i decided that would be a fun car to have...
I still want the good RC truck..
but the edge runner cars were for the pup..
man the dog beat the crap out of that thing.. rolled it, bit it, flipped it.. and it just kept on going... the thing is all wheels and a stunt car so it is made to flip and my dog definetly flipped that thing...
great little RC car for the money.. for 29$ your dogs will enjoy the thing..

I have no idea why, but I cannot currently play videos. Says the format is not supported or something. That would be pretty funny to see. I have still been wanting to run mine, but havent...even after charging the batteries up and everything, still it just sits.
I am anxious to hear your thoughts on the truck.

Greg, sometimes you have to save it to your desktop in order to get 'em to play. I have to do this every so often. I don't really understand why some will just play and others require the 'save' routine. Maybe it's a quirk related to how they're hosted or stored.
