Lots of browser talk lately. I have Safari, Firefox, and IE on my new machine. I might add some others later, like Opera, Camino, Netscape, etc.
I use Safari even though it is a tick slower than my tweaked Firefox. The reason I stick with Safari is an Apple application, so it uses Mac OSX system wide spellcheck which is really nice. Also I like it's bookmarking capabilities, and the snapback (takes you back to page one of a thread or search) button that is in the address field and in the Google search window.
The little orange dot with the back arrow is a snapback button pictured in the Google window and the address field. The spelling example was using "wich", with the "guesses" listed at the top. Usually the top line, or guess, is the right one.

Been using IE for the past 11 years, tried the new FireFox browser a couple months ago but not very impressed with it, the security features were a whole lot better on it I must say that, but not happy with some of things it would"nt let me do that IE does. Firefox eliminates the pop-ups for sure, but I got a pop up stopper anyway so thats not a big deal.
Take care :)

I voted Firefox, but for some reason it hasn't recorded it. Even after refreshing my browser. And it won't let me vote again. Hummm, something tells me that this is rigged.

I don't have one to vote for.
I mostly use Mozilla Suite http://www.mozilla.org/images/mozilla16.png 1.7.6
You can find it here (http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/).
I use Safari and Firefox on my Macs and Firefox on my XP machine.:fing02:
The only time I use IE is for the lame sites that require it. :1106:
I'm gonna download Mozilla and give it a try.

I use Windows IE that’s what my computer had when I bought it. Bill Gates updates it once-in-a-while. Usually doesn’t take much over a month to get his “improvements” down loaded.:)
IE works OK I think but, how would I know if there is a browser that would work better as I’ve never tried any of the others on your list. My thinking is, I’m keeping my computer confused enough without giving it another browser to contend with.:)

I switched from Firefox back to Mozilla 1.7.5 and use it as the main browser. I use it for email and news reader also. I keep IE and OE as a backup now. I like the way Mozilla handles multiple open windows with tabs. I'm still not sure what happened but after the last Firefox update I was having stability problems with it. (Lock ups) I also had some problems with Mozilla suite when I reinstalled it. It kept finding leftover files from previous Netscape, SBC Yahoo, and Mozilla versions. After getting them cleaned out, all seems well now. May have been what was causing problems with Firefox. Strange it worked well for several months until I updated it.

Apparently my slide shows are one of the "LAME SITES" that require it!!

I bounce back and forth between IE and Firefox.
"Lame Sites" are ones that will not work at all with any other browser than IE. Some give you a message that says as much, some don't. Microsoft sites are examples of "Lame Sites"...IE is required to download upgrades, etc. In that case I am forced to use IE. Normally I use both Safari and Firefox with little or no problems. At least that has been my experience.

I use Safari mainly, but sometimes use Firefox. I've also used IE, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, and iCab. I can't do without tabbed browsing, and I see IE is finally getting that feature. Once again, MS is late to the table. :fing02:

OK, sence I am one of the clueless loosers still on AOL at home, I had to vote that. Now isnt the AOL browser IE?? I always thought it was, just changed a little to fit into the AOL platform.

I think the AOL browser has always been based on Netscape.
I think they (AOL) are coming out with their own browser.

Google is coming out with their own browser. It will be really nice and will take a big chunk of the market.

Could someone post the differences between Firefox and Mozilla suite?
I am using Firefox 1.0.2. If it is worth it I might have to check out suite.
I use Outlook for e-mail. Would be hard pressed to change this as I have a pretty full contacts list and calender, unless there is another with a good import feature.
It would be nice to have a spell check feature handy. I usually write my post in Word, then paste it here. What are the rest of you doing? Any neat plug-in's out there?
Mark,
I use Firefox and have a few plug-in/extensions that you can get on their website.
CatDaddy uses Mozilla Suite and says it's not as customizable at Firefox but uses it at work and home. He can fill you in on the differences.
My main browser is Safari and OS X (Mac) has spell checking built-in.

Mark,
Firefox & the Mozilla browser were developed from the same 'trunk' of code. But, Firefox has branched off & is on it's own development path now. Functionality is almost the same between the two. Since Firefox is being pushed as an "alternative" stand-alone browser, there are many extensions that can be added to it (only some of which apply to Mozilla) is therefore more customizable. If you just want to add a spellcheck extension to Firefox, you can download it here at SourceForge. (http://spellbound.sourceforge.net/)
I personally like the browser/e-mail/spellcheck/HTML editor integration of Mozilla Suite. When I install it for others I use the "Custom Installation" option & deselect the IRC-Chatzilla/DOM Inspector components. I always leave the "Quality Feedback" function enabled since I like the product, so I want them to 'see' anything that causes crashes.
Mozilla's e-mail client is really robust with good import/export functionality. I don't use & haven't ever used Outlook/OE as an e-mail client, so I'm not 100% certain whether you have to export from O/OE before you import into 'zilla. I know there are calendar extensions available for both Ff & 'zilla you can get it here (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/download.html). I'm not organized enough to use a calendar, my stack of notes works for me. LOL!
HTH!

I use IE 6.0 and since downloading the free Microsoft anti-spyware/adware a few months ago, have had really smooth surfing. :rauch10:
Joe, what kind of experience did you have with IE before you added the MS Anti-virus? Ever used Netscape before?

I use mainly Firefox, mainly for its strength in eliminating and blocking pop ups, and stopping adand spy ware downloads.......I hate running multiple programs if I do not have to. I had been eat up with adware and spyware crap when I used IE. Initially after getting used to Firefox I had like it, but even with upgrades or patches or whathave you, it still gives me quirks.
I can be in the middle of reply to a post or what have you, and it will uip and quit, and give me a dialog box to send in a report as to what happened. This gets old fast. ANother problem is my email. I use a jam up email program of my hosts server that I like, but it has problems co-exisiting with Firefox. I can download all my mail headers, and if I select certain ones to delete without reading, that I know and recognize as spam, or anay emails with generic or non-existant subject lines, it will not allow me to delete them until I actually access that email. I can select any email when I use IE, and can delete them without accessing the actual email message. This email program requires a browser to operate in, so I am stuck with usuing one or the other Firefox or IE to access the email.
I also found there is some items that there is no plug in available for in Firefox, so I still find myself resorting to IE to see a website in full functionality.
Does anyone remember a Browser called Tapestry......It was amoang one of the first browsers that came out many many moons ago, and was pretty darn nice..heads and shoulders above IE and Netscape at that time, and some other browser that wa a big hit back then whose name I forget.
