I am not that familiar with the newer Power Kings, but I have a very good idea of where you can get all the information you need about them. Try going to the Yahoo group for Power Kings (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PowerKingTractors/ ). There are several on there that have the glass tractors and can tell you the pros and cons of them and what to look for. Who knows, someone just might know where some good used ones are located close to your area.
Good luck with your search.

I owned one for a short time. Very impressive tractor. Mine steered so easy you would have thought it had power steering. The deck was well built. Good gear selection. I was impressed. All I didn't care for was all the fiberglass. Hood, fenders etc. Other than that I thought it was a well built machine.

yes its worth it imho. I threw mine on ebay with trans issues and a dead battery, ripped seat etc and got almost twice that.
Yes a large frame heavy mower.

The Yahoo groups is an EXTREMELY Knowledgeable group. I have not posed a question about the Power King yet that did not get a swift and precise answer. Its a little weird posting there after you are used to this kind of format but you can not beat those guys knowledge.

Very well worth that price and a very solid-built machine.
Mjdtexan is right about the Yahoo group. It is a different format from this forum, but once you get used to using it, it is easy. Also the wealth of information on there is priceless. To me, the group is a must if you have any Power King.
If you join the group, your membership will have to be approved which usually doesn't take that long depending on how busy the moderator is at the time. Also, all the messages of new members will be screened by the moderator before getting posted -- don't get concerned if it takes a couple hours for your message to post. The group is a very well run group with almost no Spam -- in close to a year since I joined I am yet to see any.
BTW, I just heard of a 1212 being offered in Evansville Indiana for "a steal" at $650. That makes the price of the one you are looking at look pretty good -- depending on options of the one you are looking at compared to the one in Evansville. Who knows, this on might be a good one to look into also

This model is one of the earliest of the fiberglass PKs. If it is a hydro transmission, you're ok. If it's the 4 speed tranny, you're ok as long as you don't abuse it. The clutches on these tractors are a very expensive weak point. If you are only going to mow with it, you should be fine. I used one of these when I worked for my local dealer. I don't care for hyros myself but it was a pretty decent tractor. No, they are not built quite as strong as the older metal bodied tractors but they are pretty decent. Better than what's on the market today by a long shot. There are many differences between these and the metal bodied tractors. Many of this particular model were built while the metal ones were still in production. If you post the serial number, I may be able to tell you what year it is.

Don't want to steer you away from anything but there is one thing on this model (any of the fiberglass bodied PKs really) that you need to watch. The clutch. If it's a hydro then you're fine but the 4 speed with the clutch is a trouble spot IF you use your tractor heavily. If you like to abuse your tractors, this one may not be for you... if it's a 4 speed that is. Don't buy this thinking it's going to be the same as the old metal bodied tractors. It's not. It's still tons better than what's on the market now though. Good luck

Sorry about the double post there. I came back at a later time and didn't see the reply so I posted another one. Oh well, between the two you get the idea.

Little late coming in here. But what can you expect? I just signed up today.
I have a 1212 83 model. Is Ok. Have used it for my main mowing tractor for about 5 years now. No trouble at all except for replaceing back tires and one messed up spindle bearing.
Mine is the 4 speed trans with high and low range.
Has done very good for me.
What I don't like about it is reverse. Don't know why they put a 90mph reverse gear in a tractor. But they did.
I get around that by mowing in low range. 3rd gear, low range is about right. Also don't care much about having only one brake pedal.
Very untractor like.
My collection.
1212 is far left.
