He was an inside dog who would run out if given the chance to sneak out. A few months ago we had a huge ice storm and all over town we had huge brush piles sitting by the road for almost two months, I assumed this is where the snake nested up. The dog got out the day before the brush piles were removed by the city. My wife found him by the front door. She brought him in, he jumped up on the couch and fell off.

We took him to the vet and they gave him a 50/50 chance to live. We got a call saying a sudden blood clot occurred. I sorta felt bad because I didn't care for the dog and wanted to get rid of him but my wife/kids really liked him, no more pets that is for sure.

I feel for you. My wife had a Cocker Spaniel that I didn't care for. It was bad enough I called him "Stupid Is" and my pup "Stupid does". We move out of the city on some land and her dog got out one day. Apparently he ran into a copperhead because when I found him his head was swollen and he had already died. I felt guilty even though I had nothing to do with his death. I did miss him after he was gone.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry about your familys pet.

Your vet sounds like mine, and depending on the size and weight of the animial the chances are 50-50 for the little guys.

Sorry to hear about the dog's death. Don't blame yourself for it though.

Sorry to hear about your family's loss. I wouldn't be too tough on yourself about not really caring for the dog. AndI wouldn't be so fast to rule out pets-- you really don't choose them, they choose you. You'll never know when some rascal decides you've got a nice place....

In a while, Chet.
