Well, I guess this is as good a place to post this pic as any.

These were at the steam-up this yr. A pair of D9's hooked in tandom and controled from the seat in the front tractor. To get an idea how big a D9 is, take a look at the guy on the left side of the pic.

That's interesting. I don't think I've ever seen them connected together in locomotive fashion like that. I'll bet it really tears up the ground when turning.

That's a great pic Mickey. A lot of mass sitting there.

Is the pic a scan of a B&W photo? Or did you set a digital camera to B&W? Edit a color photo?

I read that for B&W digital photography it is better to set a camera to B&W rather than to strip the color out of a color photo, although I've had pretty good luck doing the latter and playing with the exposure controls. That B&W pic displays very clearly for a compressed photo. :fing32:

Just removed the color info so file would be smaller. Took the pic on Sun at the Great Oregon Steam-up.

I can't even imagine what kind of work this thing would be doing that requires something so massive as to require a tandom set up. After all it appears the front rig only had a stk blade.

These big boys are part of the CAT museum going in at the PowerLand facilities. Big Truck show coming up at the end of the month.

The mini engine shows are coming up as well at about the same time. My first time to the P.R.I.M.E. show in Eugene I was taken back by the work some have put into making miniture engines. How about a 283 Chevy less than 6" long and winds up to about 14k rpm. If you didn't have something to reference to and were looking at a pic of this engine, you would wouldn't believe it was a miniture. Some people are even building custom machinery to help with the fabrication. One guy brought in his crank grinding machine he built for grinding cranks on these mini reproductions.
