my families cat of 13 years passed away last month. he had been insulin dependent for the last 5 years. and he had been taking a insulin called PZI. (an insulin made just for cats) About 3 months before his death the company that makes PZI was no longer able to get the raw ingreadents. so about a week before his death we had to switch his insulin to one called vetsulin. (may be spelled wrong) (A insulin made for dogs but just now approved for use in cats) The day we had to start the vetsulin his health started to go downhill and about 4 days later he passed away. needless to say the vetsulin killed him. the day before he passed away he was so bad we wanted to go have him put down but it was sunday. the next morning around 3:30 am I woke up hearing my mom crying downstairs so I went downstairs and sylvester had passed away and my mom had laid him in his bed and he looked so peaceful. then my dad walks through the room and his attitude was "Is he dead yet" (my dad didn't like sylvester). and I said to him "you are so heartless" and he just shroughed his shoulders and walked away. My mom and I really loved sylvester and I know he is waiting on rainbow bridge for my mom so that they can be together again someday. I also know that I will see him again someday to. R.I.P. Sorry to hear about Sylvester! I'm a "cat guy" and I know what you and Mom are going through. I also feel bad for your Dad because he can't (or won't) relate to cats. Some men feel cats aren't "macho" enough for them. Most cats can and will "out-macho" dogs plus they know when to get involved and when stuff isn't important enough for them to get involved.:)

I'm sure Sylvester was lucky and happy to have a loving family, especially one willing to give long term medical care like that. 13 years is getting up there in age for a kitty so he lived a good long life.

I lost a 13 year old kitty last year, "Cori", to Feline Leukemia, an incurable disease. Watched her waste away slowly from the effects of anemia. Near the end I read of a new experimental treatment -- "Imulan" -- but I couldn't get her a transfusion in time to start it. She was a real sweetheart.

I bet she's keeping your Sylvester company now, playing out there in the meadow near the rainbow bridge.

Keep your chin up, friend.

So sorry for your loss. I love having pets, but it is so hard when their time comes. Sounds like you and your mom made life good for Sylvester.

I agree with Hydro. I'd take a cat as a best friend any day! (we actually have 4 at the present, and 1 more trying to join the family on the back porch!)

our condolences.

Sorry to hear about Sylvester. We lost a couple of cats over the years. They sure can be a companion. Champ used to see me pull in from work, and he'd run to greet me. My wife and I just can't take the sorrow of another loss, so we don't have any pets anymore. Maybe Sylvester is making peace with some " Tweety Bird " now.

I feel that way after having to have my cat euthanized today. No pets. That was very hard to do even though it was the right thing given the issues that were present.
