Don, Hydro-gear recommends 20w-50 in my 311-3500. I have read where guys have used synthetic and noticed an improvement. Doesn't AMSOIL have a couple of types of 20w-50 oil? Which one would be the best? Thanks.

Greetings Searsman !
Amsoil offers a choice of 2 50 wt. engine oils that will work super for your application.
Both formulations contain high levels of anti-wear additives zinc and phosphorus for unmatched wear protection.
Another benefit with Amsoil is 20 to 50 deg. F. cooler operating temperature for your hydro, which greatly extends hydro component, seal, and hose life.
Amsoil has recently reduced prices by 25 to 80 cents per quart, depending on product.
If you wish to save an additional 25% you may do so as a preferred customer.
Here are the links, the first one is for 20W50 synthetic premium protection motor oil, the second one is for Dominator 15W50 racing oil.

Hi Don,

I had a follow up question to the 20W-50 question. What about the motorcycle 20W-50. Does that have any advantages/disadvantages for this application?

Darren,
I did my own comparison of three amsoil synthetic oils, the 20w-50 motor oil, the 20w-50 motocycle oil and the 15w-50 racing oil. I compared the kinematic vis. at the 2 temperatures, the vis. index and the flash and pour points. All 3 had different ratings but all similar. In each of the 5 different catagories, the one that ranked best in that catagory got a 1, the second place got a .9 and the third place got a .8. In the end I totaled the scores and the 20w-50 engine oil came out on top. You want a high vis. index, a high flash point and a low pour point. I actually compared 7 or 8 synthetics, all name brand. Red-line and Amsoil tied for first, Valvoline came in second, then Mobil, etc. I went to my local Napa dealer today and was going to get the Valvoline brand because the shipping made the first 2 choices prohibitive. They actually had Amsoil 20w-50 engine oil for $8.49 a quart and no shipping. I felt pretty lucky.

Thanks Searsman. I think I am going to go with the Amsoil 20W-50 Engine as well. Just debating on when now. Going over the pro's and cons of waiting until the Manufactures warranty runs out because if the tranny goes bad they will blame it on the change VS. better quality protection for wear and heat that may only become apparent long after the warranty expires.
