Well,

For 7 years we have been blessed by two of natures beautiful creatures. A pair of Racoons (brother and sister) that we raised from 10 days old. They have give us many moments of joy as well as some other that we will choose to forget. But 3 days ago my Racoon Nicky got sick and this morning he passed away in his sleep. I am going to miss him greatly as he and his sister Sterling are the only reason we have this 16 1/2 acre place.

I miss you little Buddie.. RIP and I will always remember you and love you..

Aww thats sad. my dad had a pet coon when I was little. He was fun to take to parks but we would be there past o'dark:30 if the sucker got up a tree.
My daughter saw the pics of your critters just last night for the first time and she thought they were pretty cool and funny you had them in the kitchen. She'll be sad to hear one passed, she loves animals.

John:

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Animals become such a part of our lives that they ARE members of the family. Your little buddy Nicky was very lucky to have you and your wife.

Sorry for the loss of Nicky. My wife had a racoon named Bandit. It's tough losing a pet.

Very sorry about loosing your little pet. Please accept our condolences.

Not too familiar with the traits of racoons. How will this affect the demeanor of Sterling? Were they still close as when they were young?

Here in the states we aren't aloud wild pets..

Actually, we are allowed to have wild pets. You just have to go through the process of acquiring a permit and have a vet on call 24/7.

Thanks for all the kind words,

We are having a pretty rough time but life goes one. We had an autopsy done and he died of heart disease and kidney failue. Guess that was the price of the good life for him. He was overweight so we literaly loved him to death I guess. Sterling and Nicky were very close, every day after supper they would cuddle and preen each other for a few hours. One day you would see Nicky with his head on Sterling's belly and her preening him and the next it woud be the opposite. Sterling dosen't like me very much right now as she saw me take Nicky away in a blanket. She was looking for him this morning so I talked to her for abt an hour and she finally let me near her to cuddle with her. I had the johnnyshirt on I carried Nicky away in and she grabbed the sleeve and wouldn't let go as she smelt him. Our prioritiy now is to keep her from dying of heart break as racoons are family for life.

God I miss Nicky.

He is being creamated and we are spreading his ashes over the farm.

Losing a pet IS heartbreaking! Especially the ones we raise from the tiniest sizes. I have a fondness for racoons as a friend in high school had one. It would "frisk" everyone that came in the house, going through pockets looking for "interesting" things like keys and change and my Zippo lighter. Give Sterling as much attention as she'll take, animals surely do grieve their close buddies.
