Hi Don,

I have been a loyal user of Lucas Oil Stabilizer for its ability to help reduce wear from cold starts and to extend oil change periods.

I am thinking of switching to AMSOIL for all my engines but had a question on cold start protection. I see that AMSoil does not recommend mixing with oil additives but does AMSoil have a product that will mix well and provide cold start protection?

Thanks!

Greetings Darren !
Cold flow is one of the major benefits of using Amsoil synthetic lubricants.
When an oil flows freely at startup to all the critical area's of an engine at below zero temperatures, wear is greatly reduced.
Amsoil 5W30 diesel oil flows to -58 deg. F. Amsoil 15W40 diesel oil flows to
-44 deg. f. No additives are needed , nor will they improve upon the lubricants that Amsoil engineers.
In a previous thread I discussed the American Society of Testing Methods (ASTM ) Viscosity index ( VI ) which is a number assigned to a lubricant to show the consumer how well it's viscosity performs over a broad temperature range. The higher the VI number the less the viscosity of the oil changes from a low temperature to a high temperature, this is very desireable in a lubricant, high numbers tend to greatly increase engine life.
Amsoil 15W40 diesel oil has a VI of 167 , Amsoil 5W30 diesel oil has a VI of 170, with high VI numbers you have a lubricant that flows very well in below zero temps, and does not thin out or loose viscosity in very hot temperatures, it gives you the best of both worlds no matter what temperatures you operate in without the added expense of oil additives.
Extended oil drains are what Amsoil has specialized in for over 35 years, you will be hard pressed to find a company that offers the superior lubricants and filtration products for extended drain capabilities that Amsoil offers.
When using standard full flow oil filtration Amsoil recommends 3 times longer oil drains in farm tractors, lawn mowers, and construction equipment versus petroleum based oil, and you should install a new oil filter when you would normally change the dino oil.
Amsoil also offers bypass filtration and oil analysis that allows for greatly extended drain intervals. Anyone who wishes to research the cost savings, and extended engine life that bypass filtration offers will find further information on my website.
I look forward to answering any questions you may have.
Thank you !
Have a great day !

Darren- I have been useing Amsoil small engine oil 10-30/30wt. in two of my little tractors for last several years. One has a Kohler Command-16, the other is an old Kohler-K 12 horse. It can get pretty cold here--especially w/ wind chill. Mine are in an un -heated garage. Both start right up w/ a liitle more choke--=and just let them idle a bit more--have had no problems at all.
Also , just for your info, I use Amsoil in several of my vehicles.(Ford Focus and Toyota pickup.)

Greetings !
I realized today that I didn't include any other oil company VI ratings for comparison.
Here are a couple major oil brands VI, and cold flow ratings on CI-4 + diesel oils.
Mobil Delvac 15W40 VI 138 , cold pour point -29 deg. F.
Shell Rotella 15W40 VI 136 , cold pour point -17 deg. F.
Please let me know how I may be of service to you !
Thank you !
Have a great day !
Don

>>Amsoil 15W40 diesel oil flows to -44 deg. f.<<

I've been using this in my Kubota L2250 for the past 20+ years, and I've never had a problem starting during our cold, New England winters. Great stuff, Amsoil!
