I did my 50 hour service on the BX1500 on saturday.
I changed the transmission fluid and filter and cleaned the strainer with solvent. I wasn't surprised to see a few shavings on the strainer. Overall it was very easy to change. I did however put a hair over the top limit of the fluid in figuring the filter would need to be filled up, etc.
After that, I changed the engine oil and filter. It was very easy, except for having to take off my brush guard to get the hood and shell of the engine housing off.
I also greased the mower deck and changed the gear box fluid on the deck. One of the grease fittings on the PTO shaft was missing. I replaced it right away and greased it. All was going really well.
That night, I drove it up to my sister's house to move some gravel. I moved the gravel and some brush and on the way home, I notice that the transmission seemed to be dragging a bit. I got home and checked the fluid and it was still at the higher level. I took off the extra fluid via removing the filter. It brought it down to the high level mark. I started the motor up and let it sit for a few minutes. Still dragging. I also noticed that the brake pedal wasn't returning to its normal position after I pressed it. I assumed that I had royally screwed up my transmission by putting that extra fluid in.
I lowered the mower deck to 0" (as far as it can go down) went underneath the tractor to look at the brake linkage and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I then noticed a spring laying on top of the deck. The spring was the spring that connected to the brake pedal to the frame and allowed it to return to its normal position. I fixed it and it was running as it was before the service. It must have gotten jarred loose by an impact with some brush at my sisters house.
I quickly checked all the fluids and then set out to continue mowing. I lowered the deck, engaged the PTO and the mower stutters, stammers and stalls. I all of a sudden wonder if the engine failed and is ruined!!!! I then remember that I had lowered the deck to the ground level and was essentially scalping the crap out of my lawn in the 5 ft section before it stalled!! :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:
Needless to say, I felt pretty stupid, but after I adjusted the deck back to its normal level, it ran awesome again. The Super UDT fluid really makes a difference as their is less hesitation in the transmission and it just feels smoother. So far, 55 hrs in less than a month and a half.
