Hi Guys,

This may be a dumb question but remember that I'm new to all this.

When I was using the Brush Hog yesterday I tried to shift gears on the transmission with the PTO running in first gear. I clutched and brought the transmission out of first but could not get it in second gear. I had to stop the PTO in order to get it into gear.

Is there something I am doing wrong when shifting? One guy told me that you only clutched half way down to shift the transmission and all the way down to shift the PTO. I always have the PTO in first but sometimes want to shift the transmission from first to second.

Thanks for any input you might have.

Jerry,

These tractors don't have a synchronized gear box. Normally you select the gear, engage the PTO and drive. If the gear is either too high or low, you have to come to a complete stop, disengage the PTO and select another gear, and re-engage the PTO.

If you experience the implement trying to push you forward with the clutch depressed, then your ORC (over run coupler) between the implement drive shaft and your PTO is bad (or missing).

There is no half clutching on any of the small Japanese tractors that I'm aware of.
