Our beloved black lab 'Daisy' had to be put down today. A very sad day for me and the family. I've had her for nearly 14 years. Born Oct 25th, 1994 she was the runt of the litter. I got her at 3 weeks old. Bloated and full of worms, the vet said I could keep her if she lived through treatment. Live she did. I started taking her to work in a laundry basket and bottle feeding her. Later, she destroyed my kitchen, chewed through walls, ate batteries, pens, aluminum foil, rope, and almost died from eating 1/2 bottle of Alieve (pain reliever) one Christmas week. She was there for the marriage to my wife and the birth of my kids. She will never be forgotten.
Here's a picture of her and her favorite thing to do - playing at the dog beach.

Greenster:
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Pets are true friends and are hard to part with. I'm sure she enjoyed you as much as you enjoyed her. Sorry.

That's a hard thing to have to do...
A lot of us have been there... and know what you're feeling.
Cherish her memory. We still remember Jake (Thanksgiving will be 4 years, now)... even my 7½ year old daughter remembers Jake.

Aww sorry about that Greenster. We have a black lab too so I wont let the kids read this but I know they would sent along sympathy to you
the dog beach is fun! We go down there as often as we can (Ponce Inlet is where you go, right?)
Let me know if you look for another. A good friend is part of Southeast Volusia Humane Society in New Smyrna and they get purebred labs in often; its where we got ours. If and when you're ready.

Like many others here, I have gone through the same thing. It's sad and hard and nothing else you can do. You have my sympathies and hopes that a new dog will find you when it's time. I've never had a new dog "replace" one that's gone, as they all have their own personalities and generate their own place in the family.
Very sorry about the loss of your good pet. It's a hard thing to do, even when it's the right thing. Condolences.

Thanks for the support, guys, much appreciated. This is the first animal I've had to euthanize. My kids are too young to understand (3 and 4) but they feel the loss. My daughter drew a dog today during play time. It's her way of understanding.
Edward,
Yes, the Ponce inlet dog beach. Great place for the dogs. I'll be in touch with you if/when we decide on another. It will be a while.
Regards to all,

Greenster, sorry I'm so late in responding. Somehow, I missed the post earlier. I am so sorry to hear that you had to have dear Daisy put down. Our pets become such a large part of our lives. It's heartbreaking when they leave us. The best advice I can give is, remember all the good times and share them with anyone who will listen. And, maybe do as the wife and I did when we lost our dear friend of 13 years, put together a memorial of her pics in a frame at a place of honor. We have our collage of Max's pics hanging in the hallway, for all to see. God bless!
