Hey Bernie
It would a great way to find some jewelry for gift's for the wife! Just don't ever let her find out!
I knew a guy that would walk through the local cemetary a few nights a month on his way home from work and put together bouqets for the wife! She thought he was the greatest guy on earth!:)

6C- Free flowers, eh? I know an undertaker that always has a supply of healthy looking flowers. Hes also got a bunch of white thin blankets on his boat. He refers to them as "stiff blankets". "Hey, you guys cold up there?" "NO, Larry- No...were just fine, thanks!" I kept looking for one with a toe tag caught on it. LOL
He also once at someones request, took a plastic box out to the lake with someones ashes in it to spread about the lake. He was to sprinkle some in the water near the yacht club, some near the swim zone, etc. He went to dump some out and they flew into my moms face and into her mouth. LMAO
Anyway, sorry for hijacking the thread. I know nothing about metal detectors, but theyd have to be pretty advanced now days.

Rumor has it that farmers use to bury their savings under the chicken coop..When anyone came snooping around, the chickens would set off an alarm! Look there..
Also, rumor has it that they used a hollow fence post on their property to save coins (gold)..Look there..
There use to be a lot of treasure hunters visitng the old ranches around here and thats were they would look around the old buildings and barnyard.

DB , I purchased a White about 5 years ago , mainly for gold diggen in the Bradshaw mtn`s. in Arizona. The detector will disquingish gold from other metals and vis versa.
I think the best place to find change and jewls is in a cemetary. BUT who has the nerve to go look .? :hide:
Oh ,, I still have the white and use it from time to time , it looks a lot like the one in the Post of Greg

All my treasures come from Dumpsters, no dectector needed..........SOmeone mentioned about burying their stash under a chicken coop.....yep FACT. I had bought a Case 530CK backhoe some years back and needless to say I did a lot of most any kind of job to help pay it off.....I mainly tried to do septic and drain lines and footers........I got a call one day from a person wanting an old barn and chicken house torn down and buried........I accepted the task......Did not take much to knock the old barn down and push it up in a pile, or the chicken coop. There was some old concrete that was poured, and the owner of the place asked if I could rip it up as well and push it in the hole. Not a problem..........After quite a few hours on the machine non stop nature called, and I had a heap of dirt on one side of the machine I had scooped out with the hoe.......so off I get and start to water the dirt i had dug out.......soon a pice of glass appeared..........right in the middle of the stream..............so I diverted the flow and then poked at the glass, which turned out to be a fully intact mason jar with the wire bail locking snap and glass lid. It had somehting inside, and when I opened it up it was packed full of paper.........as in GREENBACKS..........Made a quick trip to my truck and placed it under the seat out of sight. Went back to doing some more digging, but curiosity had the best of me, so I left the job site and pulle dout the glass jar.....I had over $1,800 dollars all in 2 dollar bills that were made when the first 2 dollar bills were issued many many many years ago.....They were all like new......and I got more for them than their face value........Did I tell the land owner what I found, heck no.......as he had no clue they were there as he just bought this property and wanted it cleaned up...........and yes, I eventually did get that job done, but I wound up burning all the buildings materials that was pushed up, and then pushed the burnt remains of them into the hole........That brought a few extra bucks as originally owner wnated the stuff buried without thinking about burning it to reduce any chance of rot and future ground settleing from the rotted materials..........

No DR , I havn`t found much , a few horse shoes , and hundreds of the old pull tabs. I carry a large hunting knife , when the detector finds metal , I plug the ground , like you would a watermelon . that way its easy to put the dirt back and keeps property owners happy . I need to get out and try it again .

that was quite a find chip! im in the middle of doing an online search of some history of my town of alton ri. but im not having much luck does anyone here know of any good sites? i know of a few places where theres very old rock foundations and they are fairly well hidden. theres also a monument out there and i was told its where the founder of alton lays in rest so im going to go out and get his name and do a search on it. i just hope nothing has been destroyed as i havent been there since my teens. theres also a very old 2 cycle mower i dragged from a house that was being bulldozed i left it out there somewhere but that was when i was 13 and im now 36 but maybe i will stumble across it. :fing32:

Bernie, looking for a $200 range detector for ocean beach searching is going to be tough. Searching in wet salt sand requires a metal detector that has the circuit designed for it or has a separate setting. Don't bother to use one that is not made for that type of hunting, it'll drive you out of the TH'ing hobby! It's like looking for gold nuggets in the desert with a machine designed for coins. The mineralization in the ground will drive the detector nutz!

thanks for the tip HH. for the time being im going to search around town for a bit as i dont think much detecting has been done here. i mentioned buying a better one and many members on the site suggested i "borrow" one from wally world. meaning use it long enough to make some $ then return it! ROF im not going to go that route but i am going to get a little better unit than i have. bernie.
Come on, bernie...quit being such a cheapscape and "Go for the Gold"...

"Treasure" update: A buddy stopped by with a colonial era British half-pence and silver shoe buckle today. Coin worn too much for dating but a nice finds for a "worked out" area anyway... TH-ing is just like fishing, you never know what you will get.
