Got a chance to pick up a small Jacobson front engine rider. I have not seen it yet, but know its small, and has like a 8hp engine in it. It needs a motor, but other then that its OK. Anyone have any info on these?? I cant seem to find any info on them at all.

I'd guess about 1967-1969, and mine has an 8hp kohler. EXTREMELY well made & heavy duty for an 8hp or any other hp.
I saw one other T-800 in my life and it was unrecognizable as a puller.
(the extremely large rear tires and rearview mirror on the lift handle weren't factory. The auctioneer said the elderly owner used it to get around like a scooter)

Cool I will defently have to go look at it then!! Looks like a nice little tractor. As I said, they were using it till they sezed the motor, so cant be in that bad of shape.

Mine was an LT 860. My owners manual I kept from it cover the LT750 as well. Mine was a 1974 model. Looking at the book the LT750 was labled Jacobsen Chief on the hood. Below is the picture of the LT860 but the 750 was virtualy identical at least as far as appearance.

What kinda driveline did it have? Were they good for anything at all, or real lighteight? What brand engine came with them? I think she said it has a 7hp, but it is seezed.

Paul, I haven't had much luck looking up info on my 63 Jake Chief. But I can tell you it is one tough little mother. The other day I'm towing the agrifab trailmower with it, and the trailmower hangs up on something, The Jake just kept going, front wheels straight up in the air. I set up a single bottom plow for it, plows in 1st gear a little above idle. I built a 40 inch york rake for it, rakes barely above idle. Lots of torque. Mine has a little kohler on it. The #'s are gone, but I assume its a 7 or 8 hp.

$25 in machine, tractor $10, tires $5, plow $10

That jacobsen I posted is a gt with a horizontal Kohler. Identical to a ford except for paint & decals. The one in post #7 is a LT with a verticle engine and is completely different.
It shouldn't be too hard to determine which way the engine is oriented.

same with mine, horizontal Kohler, GT, 12 inch wheels on the rear, 3 speed gear trans. No hi/low. Doesn't need low range

Ya, she realy did not know about the engine. I mean, its free, so I might just grab it anyway. Worse case, toss some old pushmower engine on it, and let the kids drive it arouns....

I had NO luck using a push mower engine on a vertical shaft tractor, until I added a heavy cast iron pulley to the crank above the pulley I used for the belt to power the transaxle, otherwise it would not start ,or if you did get it to start after it kicking back like a mule,it refused to idle below 1800 rpms, the aluminum flywheel is too light ,the blade on a push mower engine IS the flywheel, more or less, the one they put on it just holds the magnets for the magneto in the right spot!..
The "Epicenter" plans to make a generator from a push mower and GM altenator tell about this problem too, they suggested finding a flywheel off a similar horizontal shaft engine made of cast iron, but finding one can be difficult,I had several off other junkers but they all seemed to have a different taper,or outside diameter, magnet arrangement,etc..putting a 6" cast iron pulley on it I found on a big electric motor that had a 7/8" shaft (not your most common size,I'll add!) at a junkpile at the landfill,it started and ran sweet, and I was surprised how powerful a dinky 3.5HP mower motor can be,if its got a heavy flywheel on it!..it's a bit slow to "wind up",but once you get it spinning,it doesn't want to stall, even if you pop the clutch!..it
ll do a wheelie instead, and keep right on pulling...
I might swap one of my push mower engines on my homebuilt "pickup/dump truck" tractor that has a 5 HP briggs vertical shaft, that refuses to run more than 10 minutes, despite replacing every peice on it that unscrews, and another "short block!"..I even added a points eliminator module, and it still does the same thing!..
I've let it sit outside over a year as "punishment"--so now its time to resurect it,or scrap it..it's going to be a toss up,the tires are dry rotted, wont hold air long,it only has one speed forward and reverse..I may swap a different transaxle in it and put a horizontal shaft motor on it instead,if I decide not to just scrap it..I'm getting buried under all the tractors and engines I've collected,I'm finding out now,the hard way!..:(

In 1974 they were using Briggs.
LT750 Briggs#170707 Type 0702-01 (7.0Hp., Vertical, Electric Start, I'm not sure if it was a Syncro-Balanced engine or not. But I would assume it probably was.)
LT860 Briggs#191707 Type 0120-01 (8.0Hp. Vertical, Electric Start, Syncro-Balanced. This was the engine mine had.)
Transmission: Peerless 600 series, 3 Forward, 1 Reverse
Ground Speed @ 3300 Engine RPM
1st (26.6:1) 1.84 mph
2nd (13.6:1) 3.45 mph
3rd (9.1:1) 5.50 mph
Reverse (19.5:1) 2.50 mph
If you need ground clearance and other dimensions I have that too. :D
If yours would turn out to match up to the model and time frame of the owners manuals I have, I'll gladly photo copy them for you.

if it's free grab it and go to surplus center.com and get a Honda knock off for cheep and you'll have a decent little tractor with little investment.
