Hi all,

I originally posted this on TBN because another poster had a problem with his MFWD axle, but know there are members of this forum that also have Deere and non Deere CUT's that this would apply to:

"This post is somewhat in response to Iowa2210's problem with his MFWD axle. Although he only had 20 hours on his machine and hadn't used his in the winter, I was talking to another poster and 2210 owner, and he urged me to change my axle fluid at 100 hrs. due to the fact that I operate it in the winter. Not that anything gets in the axle, but that the temperature differences cause condensation to build up. Sure enough, when I changed it last weekend, there was enough water in the gear oil to make me glad I did. Maybe the rest of you 2210 owners might want to do the same; 2.6 qts. of gear oil as insurance against potential problems seems like good insurance. The owner's manual calls for the oil to be changed at 500 hrs, but I wouldn't wait."

Cheers

Great info, JDF. Although I don't have a whole lot of winter hours on my 2210, I'll make it a point to change it sometime this summer.

Thanks again.

Mow,

I guess the point I was trying to make is that the MFWD unit gets pretty hot when it gets a workout (heck that's why we got it!) and that the difference in temperatures will cause condensation even in warmer temps. I'm thinking that at a bare-minimum changing this fluid more frequently is good insurance, but could be much more. Perhaps other owners of 4WD tractors after changing the gear lube can post the hours and their findings. My gut tells me all will see some whitish condensation floating throughout the gear oil.

Cheers

I'll be at 100 hours by the end of the month. I'll take a look at it when I do the 100 hr service. Thanks for the heads up.

I changed a JD1050 4wd front axle after 400 hours when I bought it, lube looked clean and good, seems like I changed at least one of the two Kubota L2350's 4wd's I had. Other than the price, I like to use Mobil 1 Syn 75W-90 for gearbox and axle applications, including automotive that require GL4 or 5.
