A mule drive is usually a set of pulley's that the deck or other implement belt routes through to make a turn. Most horizontal shaft engines that use a belt driven deck will need a mule drive to turn the belt 90 degrees to reach the deck pulley.

If you do find a used one for the 5518 make sure the shaft on the end of the belt tightener for the deck pulley isn't rounded off. That part is made of alumanum and will lose the "indent" after wearing when tightening the belt. For proper tension the metal tab must touch the frame when the deck is in the up position. Also the knob on my old one stripped out too and had to be turned with a vice grips. :Disgus:
