I have posted a similar question a year or two back, now I have two more years of no-data.
Northern Tool has been selling CUT and even large, now one at 85 HP, 4 Cyl Diesel with enclosed cab with A/C...still I have never seen a report on a Nortrek tractor on My tractor Forum, or anywhere else. I was for some time interested in their 20 HP and 25 HP CUT, 4WD, 3 Cyl Diesel, etc. I have never read a report by an owner. Norther Tool can't be carrying these products for years if they are not selling any, could they? Sorry if I mis spelled, may be Nortrec or something similar. Looked it up the name is Nortrac.

The smaller tractors are Jinma's imported from China. The Nortrac are a rebadged tractor. They also go under several different names. Do Google for Jinma Tractors. I had a Jinma tractor rebadged under the name of Rhino International 2220 20HP. Had it for 7 years and put over 700 hours on it. The electric system caught on fire and I had to replace a lot of wires. Then the clutch let go and broke the bell housing. I worked it hard for those seven years and did what I wanted it to do. They are ok tractor for the price.

Thanks, your experience seem relevant. Still I wonder why Nortrac remains silent on forums such at this one.
It sounds like your Rhino had some rather serious problems for 700 hours, even a poor or errored design or manufacture. Of course an overlooked installation error in wiring could allow a vibration caused insulation failure...for example. I have over 1000 hours and 14 years on the Craftsman in my avatar, and no such failures.
The attraction of of the Nortrac smaller tractors, CUT level, was the diesel liquid cooled engine with PTO and 4WD on AG Tires. If it were available with a belly mower and grader it would have been over the top on my wanta-have list.

If Chip wasn't so far away i think he could take care of you Jerry...and with a better tractor too. You might e mail him to see what he could do for you anyway. He is also a member here i believe.

This is less than the Nortrac 20 hp, I think it is close to $6K..but is 4WD, has two stage clutch and two speed PTO (rear) and power steering. It is three cyl water cooled diesel. I don't think I've seen any water cooled three cyl for less than $6K, seems there is at least one.
I've seen a CUT at Tractor Supply that is in the same price/feature range as the Nortrac. I get by with a garden tractor but have been interested in something bigger with hydraulics...there is, of course, a couple of Cub Cadet Garden tractors that would meet those specs.

Jerry:
I have a Maverick 182, which is really a Jinma 180. It is the same tractor as the little ones you saw at Nortec as a 20 HP. The difference is the 2 cylinder engine I have has been replaced by the 3 cylinder. They have also added a two stage clutch and some other items. I've been happy with the tractor, but the electrical system leaves a little to be desired. I also bought it used and cheap, since the original owner had broken the shift collar off for the 3rd and 4th gears. Brazing fixed it nicely.
I would check with the Chinese Tractor Owners Association (CTOA) They have, or did have, a Yahoo forum like this. It moved and I no longer have it coming into MY YAHOO like I used to. Farm Pro uses the Jinma tractor for their smaller tractors and, like others have changed the brand used for the larger ones, just like Nortrec. Prices have gone up because of the dollar value change.
You can order the ones from Rural King by going to ruralking.com Unfortunately, they come with turf tires. I did not check to see if they would change them. Turf tires often are higher than ag tires.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Paul,
That's some list of name-plates. Makes one wonder. With that many brands each would need sell only a few units for the home factory to keep busy.
Yes, if our government keeps trying to get us out of or away from a recession caused by too much debt by running up the federal debt, we'll soon be paying as much for Chinese products as we did for US manufactured products. And, $5 a gallon for gas too.

Northern Tool and Equipment sells the NorTrac. The 20,25,30 and 40hp are Jinma built and the 50 and 82hp are Foton built. We had a 60hp, but it did not meet 2008 EPA standards with the Chinese Perkins.
They carry a 1 yr parts and labor warranty and we have service centers through out the country. We also have a parts, service and warranty call number that helps customers with issues.

Does anyone know if there is a after market or domestic source for the hour meter sensor on the 25hp Jinma?

Because of getting a bad reputation as being poorly built, (Junk), tractors, the Chinese agricultural industry had to improve the quality of their tractors or loose the industry to the Japanese, amongst others. Unknowingly to a lot of people, Caterpillar and John Deere have made deals to integrate with the Chinese agricultural manufacturing industry, which by all indications means, that JD and Cat will be making some of their models there. John Deere actually bought a Chinese tractor manufacturing firm. It will be called, John Deere Ningbo Agricultural Machinery Co. LTD. JD is no longer a sole US company and for some peoples information, hasn't been for quite some time, it's just that their now expanding their operation further and because of the Internet, companies can't hide their deals like they used to. Caterpillar has been making tractors out of the country for years, so that's no surprise to me. The newer Jinmas and Fotons, some re badged as (Nortrac) for Northern Tool, have come a long way in a short time as far as quality is concerned. The Fotons, as I have been told, have always been a better tractor in China, but cost more. I have four American made tractors, two JDs, a Ford and a Farmall. I couldn't except the price of a new JD so I bought a 60hp Foton/(Nortrac) with cab and like it! I really hate to say it but, it's one fine tractor and was close to 20,000 bucks cheaper than a JD of equal horse power and equipment. Why do you think JDs moving part of their operation to China? Here's a photo of my Nortrac/Foton. PJ

It's called Greed!
It's long been known that JD is building in various foreign countries, India, Japan, and Mexico that I know of.

I agree %100. Owners of new "so called" American tractors, and I'm just as guilty as the rest, should stop looking down their nose at folks buying tractors built else ware. They'd be quite surprised if they dismantled what they have that isn't over 20 years old and looked where each item was made. Mexico has been making parts for years with their cheap labor that weren't labeled "Made in Mexico" and why is that, because American manufactures didn't want the public to know!

Our Case IH 5140, is I believe a '92 model, was built in England.
The 686 has a D312 German engine.
