i went to walmart, home depot and 2 auto part places.. all of them sold those blitz spill proof gas cans..

are they any good? i was sort of looking for the old style so i can use it for my tractor and also to fill the gas tanks on my boat... (for the boat, i thought the 5 gallon cans will be easier than unplugging and moving the plastic ones that my boat uses)

im not crazy about the spill proof design (but have never used them)

are they any good or should i search for the old style that lets me spill it?? :bonk:

I bought two of the blitz cans from HD recently (when I got the bota). They are the best spill proof design I have seen. You put the edge that is outside of the spout on the lip of the tank and press the can towards the tank. This releases the spring loaded nozzle to release the fuel into the tank. No more splashing or overfilling.

I really like them. I will be replacing all my tanks with them (except my 22 gallon pumper)

A word of caution on those Blitz gas cans. DO NOT STORE A FILLED CONTAINER WITH THE SPOUT STORED INSIDE THE CAN. I did, and darn near had a fire. The darn spout will wick fuel right out of the can and you'll have an instant leak.

I had some communication with the company on this, and they seemed to take the high road on me. There was nothing on the can (that I bought anyway) indicating the spout had to remain on the outside of the can once it was filled.

I have used them (2-5 gal and 4-1 gal for a couple of years now and have no problem with them, they work great.

That is the best part about those cans. Their is no rear vent to cause spills and there is no need to turn the nozzle around to prevent leaks.

They are probably one of the most secure containers i've ever used.

Very first thing I managed to do with my new spill-proof gas can was spray gas all over my hands. I collect antique air-cooled gas engines, I'm afraid to put the pressure on some of my gas tank/carb combinations required to open the spout so I have to pull it down by hand. The gas can was warm with pressure in it that sprayed gas out the spout.

I'm now checking flea markets for the old style cans so I don 't have to deal with those things.

what do you mean by this? you always have to store it with the spout on it?
meaning; spout sticking out of the can not inside of the can? so its never closed up?

i bought one at wally world today.. as much as i hate that place sometimes... home depot wanted 15-16$, the auto place had it on sale for 15.88 walmart was selling it for $9.88 same exact can...

so when full, do you guys store it with the spout sticking out? there is no vent on the can anywhere....

When I filled the can up at the gas station, the can would not fit in the bed of my truck with the tonneau lid shut, so I had to insert the spout into the can and use the disc in the end of the cap to close the can. (Can't drive here with the tonneau lid up in the air cuz the local Barney Fife will stop ya.) So when I got home, I took the can out of the back of my truck and put it on a shelf in my garage. The next day, the garage was filled with gasoline fumes and the shelf was saturated with gas. Now that I know better, I won't be doing that any more.

Fuel cans are one thing I have a heap of in various materials and concepts. About a year or two ago I found a heap of the none vent type BLitz cans like pictuyered in Kens post in Wally Worlds dumpster........most were unused and did not leak, but some did have gas in them at one time, but all were in like new condition......I hate them. But I do use them just to be able to store gas in them. I also aquired a bunch of 2.5, 5, 5.5 and 6.5 gal Eagle and another brand who I forget at this time, safety cans that the unit decided they needed to get rid of because at one time they held huydraulic fluid, or motor oil and such and with the new regs in regards to them needing to be color coded according to fluids in them, and since they were in use, cleanng them up to paint wa more trouble for them than simply buying new cans to paint, so I wound up with 15 or 16 of them. All have the mesh flame arrestor / strainer inside the fill neck, and have spring loaded closed, filler valves, and some also have flexible spouts.....None leak..and all are red in color. I simply made metal tags to denote whats in each can.........premix 2 stroke fuel, diesel, K-1, straight gas etc etc.........I also have a few of the old metal GI fuel cans as well as a few of the new type plastic GI cans. They leave a lot to be desired in my opinion as it can be a pain with the fill spout sealing up right all the time, and a lot of the flexible spouts are too large for most small engines fuel tanks, but are fine for things with large fuel necks like my GX335 JD and typical military equipment..........makes refueling fast.

What don't you like about them. Everyone I have shown how they work goes out and buys one. They can't believe how easy they are to use and that they don't spill any gas.

Well I am going to buy 6 of those 5 gallon models. But the ones with the roll cages on them. Because DOT is a pain. Plus two 2 gallon models for my 2 stroke stuff. The roll cage models are something like $165 each. :banghead3

Gets even better. Just bought one two days ago. The yellow for diesel was $16 and the blue for kerosene was $9...same can. Don't ask why 'cause I'm still trying to figure that out. I didn't like the yellow spout (push kind mentioned above) 'cause You had to hold the can to high to make it work. The blue had a "normal" spout so I switched them at the store. Bad idea!! Even though they screw on identically, the gaskets are different, so that now I had a leaker. Had to go buy a blue one (again switching spouts) to make matched pairs at home. Just have to remember that I put diesel in the kerosene can.

The slowest thing on earth to get fuel out of and too thin to boot (NO VENT except for that little phony tube inside the flimsy nozzle !!!!
I have a 100 gallon aluminum boat tank with an electric pump and filter to fuel my boat with--- didn't use it this year instead used the little red poor excuses for a jerry can and I can report IMO they SUCK rather then BLOW!!!

Will put my Tank back in my PU!! Next season!

I have two cans right now. One is a 6gal like the one pictured. Wile its OK, it does get annoying when you are pouring a lot, and have to wait wile it vents to start pouring agin. I also have a small 2gal can I use for pre mix. That has the spring loaded nozzle. I HATE IT!!! I end up with more fuel out, then inside the piece of equpimit. The think is with weed wackers, saws etc, they have such small tanks, you really have to open the nozzle by hand. Well because of the disign, with small openings, instead of pouring down into the tank, it sprays out to the side. I dont like it at all!

Ok used mine for the first time. Looking at them I really preferred the old spout style, but no where, I mean no where, could I find one. Every store carried the exact same thing. I ended up with yellow ones for diesel.

All in all they work fine. So Far. They are a little slow pour, but considering I don't have to bear the weight because they just sit on the lspring loaded lip, it wasn't so bad. It was convenient not having to mount and unmount the spout. So thus far, I give them a thumbs up.

One thing I couldn't quite figure out though. Red for gasoline, yellow for diesel and blue for kerosene. All made by the same mfg and all 5 gal, but they each have different spouts and aren't interchangeable??? What's the logic behind that?

Brigg and Stratton sells a 2.5 Gal gas can that will shut itself off when tanks full. Has a check valve in the the spout that is spring loaded. when your tank is full just pull up on the gas can and the spout shuts itself off and your good to go, no dripping. Not a cheap gas but it has a fine screen to help keep your fuel load clean. First one came with my DR. brush mower as a free gift, 2nd one on sale at HD for under $10.00 and the 3rd one brand new cost $5.00 at a yard sale. I have a Blitz gas can no spills it the 5 Gal. it replaced the one that someone ripped me off, out of my work truck. They must have ran out of gas mine had 2 cycle gas in it, I hope it screwed up their converter. The name of the gas can is called, Smart Fill Fuel Can (2.5 gal.)

I don't like them because you can't pour from them into a funnel

==========
From what I've read and heard they cause more spills and accidents than they prevent.
They are also usless in cases where pouring into a funnel is required due to the fact that with a funnel involved there is no lip to place the spout on so as to be able to press the can down.
They are also usless in close quarters where you can't
get the spout into.

A much better can is the blitz cans with the ventless spouts.Probably cost a lot less too.

Here is my take between them.
The old style can let you spill it but the new type can make you spill it.

The picture you show in your post is not a picture of a spill proof can.

That is a ventless can.

The ventless cans are great but the spill proof ones are crap.

Seems to me many folks are getting the ventless and the spill proof cans mixed up with each other.

I love my spill proof cans!! I bought the ones at HD and while they may be a little slow to dispense the fluid, they are great as there is no mess at all. I have yet to drop a single drop of diesel or gas from my cans. My can may be different, but I love the thing.

Ah Ha. another one to add to the growing list of how to spill gass with a spill proof can.

1*Why - what's the violation?
What's wrong with doing that? I thought that's why they had hinges so that you could open and close them.
2*I've always known better than to store gasoline in the house basement or garage.
