What's with the Quote Button? At the risk of pissing some of you guys off, it is getting to be ridiculous - just my opinion - . There are several instances of threads being two or more pages long only because guys keep hitting the Quote Button to repeat previous posts. It is especially bad when the "Quote" involves a thread with multiple pictures. It has to be using extra bandwidth. Also, I don't have trouble remembering a post that I have just read and don't need it "Quoted" four or more times in the same thread. Anyway, just my thoughts. :1106:

I haven't tried it yet but can't you just highlight a portion of a post, right click it, click copy, and in your post click Edit, and click paste to include part of someone else's post in your post?

Sorry if everyone is pissed - just wondering why all the "Quotes".

Sorry ED! I couldn't resist! ROF ROF

But seriously, I agree with you especially with pics. Sometimes it's just a running gag but most times it's just a waste of space as you said. There was talk among the mods about having a rule against useing it excessively in the same post as you mentioned.
And yes you can copy/paste any part you'd like to use. The only thing is it may not say who the quote is from depending on where you take from the post.

Agree on the multiple posting of pics, an exception would be if you are on page 3 or 4+ of a thread, and you wanted to use it for reference since it might have been buried on the first page, or was one of multiple pics in the thread.

As far as the quotes. I guess it's a way for the the poster to indicate exactly to who or what they are responding to. Guilty as charged!

As far as the copy and paste, yes you can. The advantage of the quote button is that it formats the separating and crediting of the quoted poster and puts it in a different font.

You can cut out the text of a person quoted after you have hit the "quote" button. It will retain the separation and identity of the original poster. You can delete the image tag, too. It's good courtesy to indicate that you have edited that person's text by using ....... at the beginning of the edited text or < snip>, etc.

sixchows -

I was thinking you'd probably give me a come back. ROF

Your quote and my quote kind of amplify my point.

Ed,

When you hit the QUOTE button, the original poster and his post are enclosed in their entirety in a new Reply window. As I now see on my other screen, Mow has explained that the original quote can be edited, including removal of the pic, and yet retain the original poster's name and remaining text.

Thanks for the input. I'll put together a "FAQ" or tips on this for future posting.

You can place your curser behind the last word in the quote and back space any amount of the quote you want, like i just did to Greg's quote..FWIT

I think that Ken has it right and i'm just figuring all this stuff out for myself. And that is to leave just enough of the quote to show who you are answering. If nothing else, i think the moderators should take out the pictures left in the quotes. Just mho. :comp26:

Durwood,

I totally agree with "overdoing" the pics. Pics in Quotes, and excessivily long guotes, would be discouraged. Long quotes are ones that contain the entire quote, or much more than is needed to make the point of the reply. Case in point, I've seen quotes a page long posted just to refer to one or two sentences in the reply. It not only takes up space, but makes reading more difficult. Any thoughts, like these here, are very welcome.

I normaly qoute and just cut out the parts I am not answering to. I always try to keep the name of the poster in there though[though sometimes I mess up:D]
