Thought someone may enjoy this. Aioi Works of Japan make the biggest 14 cylinder diesel engine in the world....I got a couple pictures of their "small block".

I believe I read that the crankshaft weighs 300 tons alone.

The 14 cylinder, at it's maximum efficiency, uses 1,660 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour. Not bad really as it puts out 5,608,312 lbs/ft torque....I'am thinking of puttin one in my tractor.

Yes sir Mark, put that baby in a Yanmar and take it to the tractor pulls. Those rice paddy tires would be smokin'. ROF

Here's the link to the site. I'd seen it posted at the old TF and bookmarked it cause it was "way cool". :D

If at all possible I would encourage all of you to aquaint yourselves with Turbin Engine and their benifits as they are just a stones throw from the Diesel Engine!! Just a thought from me to those that might be interested!!

A bit of trivia, if you will.... The writing in the 3rd pic is Korean, not Japanese. Pic must have been taken at their Korean plant, probably in Pusan (Busan). It is also a 2 cycle engine and the 5 mill torque is at 102 rpm!:omg:

Talk about Thump...Thump...Thump...

Do they build it in the bottom of the ship?

Good question. To me, it looks as though they build everything in components (except the crankshaft), including the block. And they are all inline engines, so I was assuming that in any application they just move, install and assemble??? Maybe?

Mow I believe it's actually rated at 100rpm and the 102rpm is over speed.

"Do they build it in the bottom of the ship?

Mike"

They lay the lower crankcase when the lay the keel of the ship. The engine is then built up while the ship is under construction. If there is catastrophic engine failure, out comes the cutting torch and they cut the ship apart.

The ship is powered by 1 engine. The engine is made in Korea but is a Swedish design.

When it comes to weird engines, this one is my favoriate. 3 crankshafts, 18 cylinders, and 36 pistons. Only the Brits could come up with something like this.

Here is the fill write up on the engine.
