I think it's called a sicle mower (not sure of the spelling). I removed to start the restoration project on the MF10. As you can see in the picture's it was run from the extra pulley on the side of the mower to a 90 degree gear box. This was then attached to the pld PTO arm possibly?. I think I'm going to get rid of it as well because I have no need for it, Is it worth anything?. It was welded on and I will have some clean up work but it looks as though I can restore everything, I may need to replace the grill though. Also for all the Massey guy's, What does the flywheel cover look like, It's missing.

Yup, someone chopped the heck out of the grill. The flywheel would have had a round screen bolted to it. I've got a 12 hydro that I probably won't use the original motor when ever I get around to fixing it up. Don't know if I have that screen or not, I'll go look in the barn this weekend, see if I can find it. There was a MF10 being sold in parts on e-bay and everything interchanges on the 10&12. Think I remember seeing the grill and etc there. I've always wanted one of those sickle bar mowers, if you decide to sell it let me know. The 12 motor I have needed rebuilt but was complete, maybe we can do some swapping.

Thanks for the reply, Yeah maybee we can work something out. The shipping might be costly though. I was just hoping to get something I could use for the tractor so I'm not looking to get a big dollar value for the sickle mower.I will be keeping the gear box for future considerations. Thanks for the info on interchanges between the 10@12.

On the Massey 10 and 12 gear drive models all the parts are the same except for the engine. They did built some model 12s with a hydro tranny. The sheet metal would be pretty much the same but the engine pulley, belts, frame and tranny are different. The early production engines had a starter generator and a point style ignition on them. The later ones had a bendix style starter and an electronic ignition system.

If you have the serial number, then you cxan use the reference sheet on the sticky for Massey years.

Don't do anything rash with that sickle bar! If you can store it away for now, until you either find the right guy for it or discover how cool it is to have one that fits your tractor. My guess is that someone out there has a bunch of great stuff that you would want to trade for it. If you restoring for the sake of restoring a GT with a sickle bar is uber cool!

Looks like an old Haban Sickle. Since you say it was "welded" on it might not be the right one for the MF10. Haban also made sickles for Wheel Horse, Deere, Cub, Bolens, etc. its possible it might fit one of those models too. Does it have a model#. Now for the tractor, it looks like the front bumper was cut off, as well as one of the mounting ears for the grill.

That sickle bar was indeed modded to fit, you can see many areas that were cut on the mower. Not to mention the obvious hack job to the poor tractor itself.
"If" it were to be used, I would look at some serious mods to allow the tractor to fit the mower if the mower can not be modded to fit. It appears that if you could shorten the mount, or lengthen the tractor you could keep the grille.
